    Culinary Intern

    Overview:

    The Culinary Intern will gain hands-on experience in a Foodservice environment with Lowes Foods. The culinary intern will rotate between various food-serviceareas based on business needs. They must be willing to learn and have a positive attitude.

    Pay is $15 / hour

    Up to 30 hours / week

    Responsibilities:
    1. How to set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
    2. How to prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
    3. How to prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, dairy and other food items using knives, electric mixers, immersion blenders, food processors, scales, and portion bags.
    4. How to process prepared foods for service using standard kitchen equipment.
    5. How to assure that each item is cooked to the Chef and guests specifications
    6. How to garnish each dish properly
    7. How to maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, cooking equipment, prep equipment, and storage equipment both during and after service
    8. How to stock inventory appropriately and according to established standards and systems
    9. How to maintain safety, food safety/sanitation throughout the department according to Lowes Foods standards.
    10. How to provide guests with a service consistent with Lowes Foods established Purpose, Priorities, and Service Standards.
    11. How to ensure the quality of product for sale meets Lowes Foods standards.
    12. Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    1. Must be enrolled in a college/university or professional culinary program.
    2. Willingness to adhere to instructions provided by the Head Chef, Store Management, Lowes Foods manuals, and documentation.
    3. Friendly, outgoing personality.
    4. Ability to work well with others.
    5. Ability to lift 25 lbs. consistently and 50 lbs. occasionally.
    6. Ability to read and understand information and direction.
    7. Effective communication, guest service and selling skills.
    8. Must be at least 18 years old.
    9. Ability to bend, kneel and stand for extended periods of time.
