    Behavioral Health Technician

    Position: Behavioral Health Technician

    Department: Psych Acute Adult Geriatric

    Shift: Full Time Nights, 36hrs a week, 6:45p-7:15a

    Overview:

    Provides direct patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse consistent with the established guidelines of practice, the Goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the Code of Professional and Business Ethics and the Co-worker Code of Conduct. Performs related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    • Education: Prefer successful completion of a High School Diploma and/or Nurse Assistant training course and/or possesses a significant amount of Nurse Assistant experience.
    • Experience: Prefer experience working with mentally ill as Nursing Assistant or Mental Health Technician.
    • Certifications: Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within their probation period.
    • Other: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
      • Physical crisis management skills, Therapeutic communication skills, knowledge of developmental stages, general knowledge of common psychiatric disorders and group dynamics preferred.
    • Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements:
      • Stand and walk most of the time on duty.
      • Meet unit specific physical demands.
      • Significant amount of bending and stooping, as well as lifting and turning patients with assistance.
      • May be required to work differing schedules, shifts, days of the week, or work frequency according to patient care requirements.
      • High risk exposure to blood and body fluids.
      • Physical demands are attached plus push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally.
      • Equipment Used: Office equipment; copier, fax, phone, computer.
      • Patient care equipment; patient lift, electric beds, restraints, wheelchair, Geri chair, pulse oximetry and vital sign equipment.
