#Plains currently has an immediate opening for a Facility Engineer (Process) to join our Great Lakes Operations Engineering (OE) Team. The Operations Engineering team acts as the engineering authority for the district and is responsible for provision of technical support for:
Maintaining safe and reliable operations
Regulatory compliance
Asset Optimization
Commercial Expansion
The OE team provides support and guidance on all aspects of production, product quality, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, asset optimization, maintenance, reliability, asset condition monitoring, project development, execution, management of change, process safety management, technology selection and evaluation, and environmental and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Facility Engineer Process will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support to the Sarnia Fractionation Plant and associated storage and marketing terminals in the region (Canada and USA) in project management, process optimizing and troubleshooting the facilities, work order support, process safety management to ensure continued equipment performance and capability. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced environment and are confident in their ability to work independently on multiple projects and tasks while balancing conflicting priorities.
Responsibilities:
Daily monitoring of the plant and equipment performance at the Control Room and through PI Data Historian and troubleshoot plant upsets and flag equipment (distillation towers, exchangers, pump, compressor) performance issues;
Analyses of various trends in PI in order to identify maintenance activities and raise associated work orders needed to keep the plant and equipment operating as efficiently as possible;
Identify and implement potential operational adjustments to the fractionation plant in order to achieve savings on operational costs;
Provide process coaching to the plant operations team as required;
Develop process simulation models (HYSYS, Flarenet, EDR/HTRI, Promax, hydraulic software), perform sizing and rating calculations for pump hydraulics, aerial cooler, PSV and flare sizing and calculations, control valve, pipe size, heat exchangers, vertical and horizontal separators, review transient models and peer calculations and reports independently without guidance;
Prepare and review process design basis, heat and material balance, P&ID markups, datasheets, technical specifications, line list, PFDs, Shutdown Keys, control and operating philosophy, flare and depressurization study.
Lead or assist projects related to plant piping, storage, pipelines and rail/truck loading (material specification, procurement, QC requirements, construction drawings, and drawing updates). Complete conceptual studies through to FEED & detailed design stages and interface with vendors;
Provide support for the Management of Change evaluations and completion of Work Orders;
Develop and recommend projects, as well as the related scope, to improve performance in terms of operating costs, reliability, safety, environmental performance, and net revenue;
Provide project management services on small projects (procurement, contractor evaluations, pre-job meetings, drawing updates, maintenance capital forecast);
Provide engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities;
Ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements applicable to the engineering activities and plains practice of engineering;
Perform detailed plant tests including analysis of results;
Participate in process safety evaluations (HAZOP, LOPA, Management of Change Checklists, PSSRs);
Participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis as required;
Perform simple and more detailed economic analysis of projects.Recognize the key business drivers which generate value (low operating costs, flexibility, importance of reacting to outside business influences); and
Provide innovative, cost effective solutions to plant problems and confidently respond to Operations queries.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering is require.
Registered Professional Engineer.
Minimum 8 12 years of overall experience. Preferably in a Facility Operations settings with good solid foundational background of EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction).
Ability to travel up to 20% of time, including travel to the USA where a valid passport is required.
Good knowledge of data historians, process simulation software, heat exchanger performance, etc.
Working knowledge of industry codes, Oil and Gas operations and regulatory requirements;
Familiar with project management processes;
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
Strong computer, organizational and technical skills.
Permanent residency within 120 km of the Sarnia Facility;
Compliance with the companys Drug & Alcohol Policy;
Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks; and
A valid Drivers License with a clean drivers abstract.
