    Medical Laboratory Scientist

    As Rhode Islands largest health system and private employer, Lifespan is dedicated to improving the health of the people within our communities. We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join us at The Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. In this position, you will perform various complex clinical laboratory tests in one or more of the laboratory sections of the Pathology Department. Full- and part-time positions available on multiple shifts.

    Responsibilities:

    Prepare and determine suitable solutions, reagents and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures

    Perform routine and specialized blood tests to type and cross match blood and ensure compatibility between patient and donor, isolate and identify any unusual or abnormal blood incompatibility factors and identify atypical conditions in blood specimens

    Isolate microorganisms from a variety of clinical specimens with emphasis on rapid detection of pathogenic organisms

    Monitor equipment operation, calibrate instruments and troubleshoots operational issues

    Perform chemical analyses of body fluids to determine various conditions

    Record and review test results for accuracy, prepare test reports and discuss findings with care team

    Assist in the instruction of students and residents and in the orientation of new employees to assigned laboratory sections

    Ensure laboratory and all equipment is cleaned and sanitized

    Qualifications:

    Bachelors degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology or closely related field

    National certification (or eligible) in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology by ASCP or equivalent

    1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory

    Ability to operate equipment and instruments and to perform all procedures and tests within assigned laboratory section and interpret them accurately
