We have a unique opportunity for a Pediatric Sedation RN Coordinator to join the Pediatric Division at Albany Med!
The Pediatric Sedation Nurse Coordinator is responsible for screening and scheduling pediatric patients requiring sedation for outpatient radiographic procedures, communicating essential pre-sedation information to patients and families, assisting with sedation monitoring, and performing follow-up evaluation after sedation completion. The Pediatric Sedation Nurse Coordinator will participate in QI initiatives for all pediatric sedations and conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with AMC Hospital policies and procedures as they pertain to pediatric procedural sedation.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination of patient care based on actual or potential health problems that are identified through the utilization of the nursing process and the ongoing evaluation of the treatment plan. The registered nurse cares for a variety of patients with unique age/developmental and socio-cultural needs. The provision of care is planned based on the needs of the patients. Each patient care area defines the unique competencies of the role based on the populations served in that area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Provides patient care and evaluate patient response to care and treatment, including intra-procedure and post-procedure treatment and monitoring.
Identifies barriers, limitations, or contraindications to safe and timely sedation and resolve or refer them for resolution/amelioration.
Contributes to high functioning intra and inter departmental team as well as interface with other professionals outside of the department on sedation-related matters.
Assigns tasks and provide ongoing supervision to unlicensed unit staff and delegate activities to licensed unit staff.
Coordinates activities that are related to the care of the patient
Acts as a resource to inpatients and outpatients by addressing and accommodating concerns and patient care needs related to pediatric procedural sedation.
Assesses the patients condition and appropriateness for pediatric procedural sedation at the time of initial interview. This includes taking a medical and surgical history, family history, a list of current medications and allergies. An assessment of health and illness patterns is performed, and vital signs are taken prior to initiation of procedural sedation.
Provides pediatric procedural sedation educational materials to patients, families, and staff.
Administration and documentation of medication as required with exception of administration of procedural sedation medications in compliance with hospital policy.
Competence in obtaining I.V. access and care of intravascular devices.
Adheres to proper infection control and sterile procedure policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of a professional academic nursing program and must hold an Associate or Applied Science Degree (AS or AAS), Diploma, or a BS in Nursing.
Must hold current New York State registration or possess a limited permit to practice in the State of New York and current BLS certification.
Procedural sedation experience as well as proficient intravenous skills are highly preferred but not required. Prior critical care experience (3-5 years) is required.
Current BLS/PALS required for competent patient care of all ages.
The Registered Professional Nurse that monitors sedated patients during diagnostic and interventional procedures must obtain and maintain current procedural sedation certification.
Experience with pediatric and adult Phase 1 anesthesia recovery preferred for CT and MRI imaging.Thank you for your interest in Albany Medical Center!?
