    Department Details

    As a Sanford rehabilitation nurse, you will have a unique opportunity!!! The rehab nurse utilizes critical thinking and hands on skills to care for and educate a wide variety of patient populations (recovery from stroke, trauma, brain injury, medical debilitation, post-COVID syndrome, etc.). Patients who are admitted to the unit range in age from adolescents to older adults. They require a hospital level of nursing and physician care, while tolerating a rigorous therapy schedule. In the FLEX position specifically, you will be required to work 1:00pm-11:30pm four days a week.

    As a rehab nurse you will be a part of a dedicated interdisciplinary team comprised of physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, therapeutic recreation specialist, dietician, nurse case manager and social worker. This team collaborates to ensure patient safety and a great patient experience, consisting of three hours of therapy daily.

    Rehab nurses build strong relationships with their patients and caregivers largely due to the patient s length of stay being on average 14 days. Time to get to know and educate your patients to prepare them for getting back to their community and life!

    Sanford s 21-bed unit pursues a rigorous international accreditation process through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The unit is accredited in two programs, the Comprehensive Rehab Program and the Stroke Specialty Program. This process is in addition to hospital accreditation such Joint Commission and Magnet.

    Responsibilities
    • Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventions
    • Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care
    • Empathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care
    • Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise

    Qualifications

    Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor s Degree in nursing preferred.

    Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
