    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Controls Helper.

    Under the direction of a foreman and shop manager, performs the duties peculiar to and normally required in the trade of H.V.A.C. controls.

    Job Responsibilities:

      • Performs other duties as assigned.
      • Assists mechanic with all repairs, tests, replaces and install H.V.A.C. equipment, using necessary hand tools and testing instruments. Assists mechanic to install, repair, adjust, balance, service and maintain pneumatic controls systems for heating, ventilation; including calibration of related instruments, gauges and controls. Assists mechanic to install, operate, service and air conventional mechanical air conditioning equipment including exhaust systems and all primary chilled water systems. As required, assists mechanic to estimate materials needed and record and materials expended on each work order. Assists mechanic to conduct necessary test of equipment to determine malfunctions or causes of breakdown, remove and replace faulty parts subassemblies and major components and make required adjustment and corrections. Understands mechanical symbols and must be able to interpret mechanical drawings. Assists mechanic to examine and test H.V.A.C. systems to locate obvious problems.
      • Assists mechanic to maintain systems operating at peak efficiency by interfacing with management clients, other shops, other foreman, contractors and outside vendors. Assists mechanic to acquire and maintain overall knowledge of facility operations and reports status to management. Assists mechanic to ensure equipment is operating according to given schedule. Have a good knowledge on NYUs Medical Centers emergency procedure coordinates information with other shops, clients, and management during emergencies such as floods, fire alarms. This includes interaction with outside municipal agencies (i.e. Fire Department, etc.) as necessary. Interacts with mechanics, peers, management, and clients, outside personnel is performed in an interpersonally smooth and courteous manner.
      • Assists mechanic with utilization of equipment and Maintenance. Assists mechanic to utilize equipment in a safe and proper manner, in accordance with departmental and NYU Medical Centers procedures. Assists mechanic with repairs when appropriate and notifies the appropriate person, including management, when equipment is damaged or in need of repair. Assists mechanic to make rounds of Medical Center to ensure that appropriate corrective and preventive maintenance measures are being taken care of and to continue uninterrupted, efficient service. Institute corrective action when as necessary. Assists mechanic to maintain clean and safe environment, obtaining the assistance and support of management when necessary.
      • Assists mechanic to records materials needed for daily operations and planned activities. Assists and makes recommendation to mechanic in ordering of necessary parts and supplies for maintenance of equipment. Assists mechanic to estimate materials needed and record time and materials needed on each work order and PMR. Performs work directed by assigned mechanic and foreman with competency. Understands mechanical symbols and be able to interpret mechanical drawings.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school graduation or trade school degree
    • 2 years of experience working in the pneumatic/automated controls, HVAC, pneumatic tube trade or, at the discretion of the hiring manager, Construction, Real Estate, Architectural, Facilities or Health Care organization
    • At the discretion of the hiring manager, trade school or NYULH maintenance worker experience may reduce the requirements to zero years experience.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $75,180.09 - $75,180.09 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
