    Summary
    The File Clerk is assigned to the Health Information Management Sections (HIMS) of the Business Office of VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. The File Clerk performs duties related to the receiving, analyzing, indexing, cross-referencing and linking of Consults, and importing/imaging of medical and administrative information.

    Responsibilities
    Major duties include, but are not limited to:
    Process incoming records by sorting into documentation categories
    Reviews and researches numerous and voluminous medical reports from VA and non-VA health care facilities
    Determines which documents need to be included in the electronic medical record
    Maintains a daily excel productivity spreadsheet of analysis and indexing activities
    Stays abreast of regulatory requirements governing medical records (VA as well as The Joint Commission), Medical record maintenance, and the disposition of legal medical documents that are imaged and/or uploaded.
    Determines each documents disposition and prioritizes stat documents that need an immediate turn-around time.
    Ensures all necessary health/administrative information is integrated into VistA through imaging software.
    Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is typically Monday-Friday, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional information regarding the tour of duty may be discussed during the interview process.

    Qualifications
    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/14/2021.
    You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
    Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. This experience may include maintaining a filing system and using a computer to perform administrative duties. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. OR,
    Education: An associate's degree or 2 years of post high school education that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Transcripts required. OR,
    Combination: An equivalent combination of general experience and post high school education as described that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Experience must be detailed, and transcripts required.

    Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It may involve some walking, standing, bending or carrying of light items.
