Director, Spiritual Care/ Full-Time
DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager of Spiritual Care is responsible for the management of the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Spiritual Care Program in accord with the Mission and Core Values of the organization.
This position oversees the provision of spiritual and supportive care to the patients, families, and Associates and will adhere to the Mission, Vision, Ethics, Core Values and Catholic Identity of CHRISTUS St. Vincent. The Manager of Spiritual Care insures that organization's the Core Values are evident in the services provided to customers, both internal and external.
The position is responsible for cultivating creative solutions to the challenges of providing spiritual care to patients and associates at all intersection points within the continuum of care provided by CSV.
The Spiritual Care Program provides pastoral/spiritual care and support to patients, families, and staff of all faith traditions and denominations, and those who claim no particular religious beliefs or affiliations. The Spiritual Care team assists patients and families in dealing with their present health crises through prayer, sacraments, conversation, counseling, and teaching.
Spiritual Care services contribute to the healing process of the total person. Spiritual Care services create an environment of wellness, prevention, and community ministry which supports the mission of CHRISTUS St. Vincent throughout the continuum of care.
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master of Divinity or Masters in Theology from an accredited university or seminary. Certification for a Clinical Pastoral Education from an ACPE accredited CPE Center.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:
Board Certification as a Chaplain in the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)
Member of the Roman Catholic Church (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Ethical and Religious Directives #22
SKILLS:
Knowledge of the healthcare environment with its challenges and opportunities. Ability to promote collaboration, open communication and team spirit. Ability to take initiative and accept responsibility. Ability to provide effective pastoral/spiritual care. Skills in establishing and maintaining working relationships with hospital administrators, departmental leaders, Associates, and members of the community. Skills in organizing, writing and public speaking. Ability to effectively use goal setting techniques. Competence on personal computer and various programs and applications. Ability to use paging and telephone equipment.
Able to provide leadership in managing Spiritual Care services. Able to assess and respond to patients, families and staff members spiritual needs through support, intervention, and various pastoral techniques. Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing professional consultation regarding the patient's spiritual needs and plan of care. Consistently exhibits good judgment, listening skills understanding of verbal and non-verbal cures, compassion, co-operation with other associates, together with a knowledge and acceptance of a variety of expressions of faith. Able to lead and guide prayer in small and large groups, designing services appropriate to the pastoral need. Respects religious diversity and dignity of all persons in professional contacts.
EXPERIENCE: Five years experience as a professional chaplain required. Two years experience as a department manager or leader preferred.

Occasional exposure to activities and infectious diseases in patient care areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily conducted indoors in an office or hospital setting. Position requires some travel between the hospital and throughout New Mexico. Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations. Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Hearing and visual acuity within normal limits. May be required to occasionally lift/carry objects more than 25 pounds.
