Speech Language Pathologist
This will be a split position with Outpatient and the Inpatient Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU)
TheClinical Fellow SLP will provide direct patient care for assessing and treating communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and feeding/swallowing disorders, maintain documentation relative to services offered, and participate in intra- and interdisciplinary training through the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disabilities (LEND) Program. This assignment provides temporary employment opportunities to coincide with and supplement the Clinical Fellowship Year training experience.
The Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU), a 16-bed inpatient unit, is dedicated to the assessment and treatment of severe problem behaviors seen in autism and intellectual disabilities.
SLPs evaluate and treat patients functional communication via speech or AAC, literacy, feeding/swallowing, and voice skills. They partner with interdisciplinary team professionals to identify links between communication and problem behaviors and help patients replace problem behaviors that served a communicative function with safe and appropriate means of expression.

- Offer functional communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and feeding/swallowing assessment, with consideration to patients and families needs and interests.
- Develop and implement treatment programs focused on resolving an identified condition or diminishing its functional impact. With consideration given to patients and families needs and interests.
- Assist senior level staff with one or more departmental and program functions (e.g., continuing education, program development, quality assurance activities).
- Maintain documentation consistent with Institute and Department expectations for all activities, as well as guidelines by The Joint Commission, CARF, and ASHA.
- Participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities relative to patient care (e.g., team conferences) and professional training (e.g., staff development activities).
- Participate in departmental activities and outreach activities in the community (e.g., presentations, services on committees).
- *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
- *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
- Must possess and maintain Speech-Language Pathologist Limited License through the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech Language Pathologists.
- Must follow American Speech-Language and Audiology (ASHA) guidelines for completion of Clinical Fellowship Year.
EDUCATION:
- Successful completion of a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology, with related clinical requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
- Additional course work or training in pediatric feeding/swallowing or communication disorders is beneficial.
