Diesel Mechanic

Position Description:The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The Diesel Mechanic diagnoses mechanical problems, repairs and rebuilds equipment on or off-site.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Diagnose mechanical problems, repair and rebuild equipment
Diagnoses problems and repairs brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, clutches, diesel engines, and electrical problems
Performs all aspects of trailer repairs
Performs all phases of vehicle repairs
Removes, cleans, repairs, reinstalls and adjusts all vehicle components
Welds equipment as needed
Prepares and completes work orders on equipment repair
Maintains completed paperwork on equipment
Makes service calls as needed
Works closely with other mechanic technicians and advises them on repairs
Evaluates completed work and conducts final inspection of equipment prior to release to ensure compliance with federal and state codes regulations
Receives, accepts and distributes all deliveries appropriately
Responsible for opening and closing the Maintenance garage
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ability to trouble shoot electrical, mechanical, diesel engine problems
Experience working on tractor trailers
Basic welding skills (Mig, Oxy/Acl)
Ability to understand type and nature of essential job functions
Ability to understand necessary safety procedures and precautions
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide
Intermediate knowledge of computer/lap top
Intermediate knowledge of hand tools/power tools
Ability to travel to off-site locations for repair
Ability to be on call
Must be able to use battery and charging system test equipment
Ability to lift and carry approximately 80 pounds
Ability to sit, stand, slouch or lie for extended periods
Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and heavy equipment
Ability to hold air impact tools up to 30 lbs.
