    Speech Language Pathologist

    The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide direct patient care for assessing and treating communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and feeding/swallowing disorders, maintain documentation relative to services offered, participate in department and program functions, and collaborate with other disciplines as appropriate to provide comprehensive care.

    Prefer SLPs with Literacy Training. Will consider newer graduates with training in literacy and SLP literacy specialists.

    1. Offer functional communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and feeding/swallowing
    assessment, with consideration to patients and families needs and interests.
    2. Develop and implement treatment programs focused on resolving an identified condition or
    diminishing its functional impact. With consideration given to patients and families needs
    and interests.
    3. Assist senior level staff with one or more departmental and program functions (e.g., continuing
    education, program development, quality assurance activities).
    4. Maintain documentation consistent with Institute and Department expectations for all
    activities, as well as guidelines by The Joint Commission, CARF, and ASHA.
    5. Participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities relative to patient care (e.g.,
    team conferences) and professional training (e.g., staff development activities).
    6. Maintain appropriate professional affiliations for state and national licensure/certifications well
    as following standards set forth by the Institute and the Program.
    7. Participate in departmental activities and outreach activities in the community (e.g.,
    presentations, services on committees).


    • Must possess and maintain full licensure from the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing
      Aid Dispensers & Speech-Language Pathologists.
    • Must possess and maintain Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology granted by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
    • Must possess and maintain CPR certification within three months of training/date of hire.
    • Trach/vent trained within three months of training/date of hire.
    • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by the Institute
    • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

    EDUCATION:

    • Successful completion of a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology, with related clinical
      requirements.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year in speech language pathology with experience in
      pediatric communication and feeding/swallowing and oral motor disorders.
    • Additional course work or training in pediatric feeding/swallowing or communication
      disorders beneficial.
