Architectural Technician
The RWJBH Facilities Management team is committed to excellence in planning, designing and constructing facilities that support RWJBH's mission. To accomplish this, we are seeking an Architectural Technician who will successfully create, manage and maintain the accuracy and consistency of our Computer-Aided Facility Management ( CAFM ) system databases for our multiple facilities including hospitals, clinics and office spaces as well as to support the Department in implementing effective architectural design solutions through collaboration with other in-house professional disciplines.
Successful candidates should be able to:
- Perform onsite inspections of RWJBH facility locations throughout New Jersey to validate and confirm accuracy and conditions of floor plans and elements required for informational tracking. Access to construction zones and building maintenance areas may be required by climbing ladders and stairs to roofs, equipment areas and mechanical rooms.
- Update and maintain Building Information Models ( BIMs ) for all facility locations in support of facility and/or organization requirements for tracking information and assets including, but not limited to, room names, room numbers, departmental boundaries, bed information, life safety components and other regulatory compliance information.
- BIMs are in various stages of AutoCAD and Revit format with goal to bring all to the same level of quality; develop a file organization system for BIM setup maintenance. Create Revit family standards and families needed in response to Project or Facility needs.
- Create and maintain RWJBH Drawing templates and manuals of policies and procedures for all in-house BIM/CAFM applications.
- Address and resolve any file exchange, data interoperability and BIM design issues.
- Prepare reports related to BIM information.
- Manage and distribute coordinated digital documents to Facilities and Project Teams.
- Maintain a high level of skill competency in latest software(s) through continued use and training.
- Implement best practices and processes for in-house BIM use for both Revit and AutoCAD applications.
- Coordinate with RWJBH IT&S Team and outside vendors to obtain AutoCAD plans and other information utilized by building automation systems ( BAS ) and similar applications.
- Manage CAFM software licenses and installations and provide fundamental and intermediate internal AutoCAD and Revit guidance/mentoring to the Facilities Management Team when necessary.
- Review BIM drawings, updates, and/or changes provided by A&E / Design Consultants and Contractors for accuracy and conformance to RWJBH requirements.
- Develop procedures, techniques, and methods to monitor and track space changes within the organization to facilitate ease of plan and information updates to the record Facility BIMs. Manage and update stacking plans for all Facilities.
- Assist in the production of exhibit Drawings for use by RWJBH Facilities Management for reports or presentations and regulatory submissions.
- Convert moderately complex schematics and/or Design Sketches into basic floor plans in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD and Revit respectively with sufficient details that meet quality parameters, Project timelines and budgetary requirements for client review/approval.
- Produce Construction Contract Documents under the direction of in-house Architects for a variety of Project types and sizes for use by internal Facility workforces and outside Contractors for bidding purposes.
- Perform additional duties that may be assigned as needed depending on organization priorities, goals and objectives.
You Are:
- Organized and able to work independently, taking direction to perform specific tasks without direct supervision. Conversely, you are also able to work collaboratively with others of varying degrees of industry experience at multiple Facility locations.
- Detail-oriented, methodical, meticulous and process-oriented and can effectively handle a heavy workload, managing multiple priorities with critical deadlines and accurate results.
- Adept at displaying professional conduct within an office environment and capable of wearing appropriate attire for such.
- Able to represent the organization and interact in a professional manner with Clients, Sub-Consultants and Contractor representatives.
You Need:
- An Associate s or Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture, Engineering or similar building design profession.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam and the suite of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with rendering software such as Photoshop, Revit and SketchUp.
- Understanding of CAFM software (i.e. Archibus a plus).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of National CAD Standards ( NCS ), BIM Level of Development ( LOD ) specifications and BOMA measuring methods.
- A minimum of three (3) years of working experience with AutoCAD and Revit in any of the industries of Construction, Architecture or Engineering.
- An understanding and basic knowledge of the entire Project development process and phases, including Architectural Design, basic Mechanical and Electrical systems, Structural building systems, permitting processing and building codes.
- Familiarity with writing macros and scripts and managing software update add-ins.
