Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cardiovascular Technician: Monitors and directs utilization of resources related to care of the patient. Utilizes acceptable communication skills in daily practice. Maintains a safe environment. Performs scrub responsibilities in the cardiac cath lab and radiology special procedures using surgical asepsis. Monitors patient hemodynamics, including basic EKG recognition, and effectively communicates pertinent information to appropriate individuals. Keeps accurate and complete documentation of all patient care related information. Assists with pre and post procedure duties. Assists with ordering and stocking supply inventory. Cleans and organizes assigned area of responsibility. Performs and assists with sheath removal. Assists with Stress Testing duties. Performs Holter monitor hookup and scanning. Performs ECGs and maintains ECG electronic system. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospitals mission statement. Cares for Adults (18 79 years) Elderly (80+ years).
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of accredited school of cardiovascular technology or equivalent.
- Must have current Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification. If employee does not have RCIS or RCES and they are registry eligible, employee must obtain registry within 18 months of start date. If required amount of exams are not available, an extension of 6 months may be given per Directors approval.
- Previous experience in Cardiac Cath Lab/Specials Radiology preferred.
- Must take call and be able to arrive at facility within 30 minutes of being called.
- Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and cath lab/radiology special procedures principles is preferred. An extended orientation may be available for the applicant not meeting the job experience requirement.
- BLS required. New hires have up to 90 days from hire date to receive the BLS certification.
- ACLS required. New hires have 6 months from hire date to obtain ACLS.
- Employees transferring from a position that did not require ACLS have up to 6 months from date of transfer to obtain ACLS.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Assessment Forms. Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives established as listed on the Performance Management Plan. Provides a safe environment for patient, visitor and employees through identifying/correcting/reporting health and safety hazards.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking; frequently lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients; frequently moves supplies and equipment requiring moderate physical effort lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 lbs. Manual dexterity and mobility needed for frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Occasionally removes or replaces supplies or equipment weighing up to 15 lbs. from locations at or above shoulder level.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Performs emergency care. Potentially subject to irregular hours. Possibility for occasional pressures due to multiple calls and inquiries. Frequent contact with other health care disciplines/professionals. Occasionally changing work schedule/assignment in order to meet the needs of the unit.
What qualifications you will need:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Registered Radiographer (ARRT)
- State Registered Radiologic Technician
- Associate Degree
