    Primary Purpose

    Provides psychological assessment and treatment planning for Dallas County Jail inmates developing interventions appropriate to the correctional clinical setting.

    Minimum Specifications Education

    Must have a Masters degree in Counseling, Psychologyor a related field.

    Prefer a Doctoral degree in Psychology

    Experience

    Must have two years of experience in psychological/psychiatric intake and diagnostics.

    Equivalent Education and/or Experience

    None

    Certification/Registration/Licensure

    Must have one of the following licensures:

    • Licensed Psychologist by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychology.
    • Licensed Professional Counselor by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors

    Skills or Special Abilities

    Requires competency in psychological assessment, diagnosing psychiatric conditions and treatment planning.

    Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good verbal and written communication skills.

    Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in meeting aged related and handicapped patients needs.

    Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provides psychological assessments through personal interview, review of records, interviews of third parties and/or formal evaluation procedures and makes/classifies mental health diagnosis, identified problems and determines plan of intervention to optimize psychological service to inmates at the Dallas County Jail.
    2. Collaborates with Jail Intake staff and professional colleagues to identify and better understand the needs of inmates psychiatric/psychological and social needs.
    3. Provides a thorough written record of all assessments including a comprehensive report addressing the inmates presenting conditions and problems, current needs, past history and documentation of all relevant information/contacts pertaining to the inmate while observing confidentiality laws and carrying out the goals and objectives as established for COPC and Parkland.
    4. tays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in mental health assessment and diagnosis by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals and/or actively participating in professional organizations, and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the position.
    5. Serves on various committees, participates in clinical staff meetings for collective problem solving activities, while maintaining a positive working relationship with all contacts to promote a harmonious and cooperative atmosphere with all internal/external customers.
    6. Maintains knowledge of applicable, rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impacts discipline. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
    7. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of COPC and Parkland

    3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
