    Corporate Accountant

    Our Corporate Accounting Team in Germantown is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Corporate Accountant to join us as an integral member of the team. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, take initiative, be open to new challenges, have excellent communication skills, and will want to develop a career in accounting.

    As a member of the Corporate Accounting Team, you will provide analytical and accounting support on a variety of topics, while learning and understanding all components of our accounting cycles for various corporate divisions within West Fraser. Once you have developed an understanding of our operations and policies, you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert in a specific area of our business. As a subject matter expert, you will become the go-to person for financial information including training other accountants and preparing reports for senior members of the finance team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Preparation and processing of month-end journal entries.
    • Posting of weekly payroll entries and preparation of payroll and benefit account reconciliations.
    • Co-ordinate with the payroll and benefits departments to resolve issues on the account reconciliations.
    • Develop a basic understanding of company benefit plans, taxable benefit rules and payroll tax calculations.
    • Analyze differences in coding and benefits application between divisions and report consistency issues to the Human Resource Department and segment controllers.
    • Ensure costs are coded correctly per the corporate coding manual.
    • Preparation of financial analysis for assigned trial balances/divisions including balance sheet and income statement variance analysis which explain changes in significant balances from period to period.
    • Completing monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for certain accounts.
    • Completing income statement account reconciliations for select accounts.
    • Maintain detailed and organized documentation for working papers to support financial reports.
    • Being a key resource regarding adherence to accounting policies and SOX standards and procedures.
    • Participate in user testing and maintenance for financial business systems and related upgrades.
    • Ad-hoc projects as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field.
    • 3+ Years experience in accounting or related such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, or cash deposits.
    • Prior experience working in Corporate Accounting a plus.
    • Plans to obtain CPA or already licensed, a plus.
    • Advanced proficiency with Excel required.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
    • Team player and ability to work independently.
    • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, ability to manage pressure and meet deadlines.
