Job Summary and Qualifications
TheICU Monitor Technicianmust be able to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team and adapt to the constantly changing workload and needs of the department. The work of the MT involves ensuring that the work of the unit runs smoothly. Visitor control is also an important aspect of the Monitor Tech's job responsibilities. The ICU Monitor Tech documents and interprets rhythm strips for the ICU, PCU and telemetry departments every shift, notifying nursing staff of abnormalities when they occur. Other duties may include but are not limited to answering telephone calls and relaying messages and keeping a running count of all patients on the unit while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
What you will do in this role:- Promptly answers intercom and telephone demonstrating proper etiquette
- Relays pertinent information to the appropriate personnel related to patients' needs in a courteous manner
- Assists in maintaining a clean and organized workstation at all times
- Maintains adequate office supplies for the unit
- Greets and directs visitors in a courteous manner
- Performs scanning of patients' medical records into the system
- Maintains working knowledge of job specific equipment requirements
- Monitors heart rhythm pattern of patients in special care unit of hospital to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment
- Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances
- Observes screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarms to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm/pulse ox/blood pressure
- Notifies ICU Charge Nurse of any variances to the cardiac monitor for ICU, PCU, and MST patients
- Efficiently monitors the distribution of telemetry units to assure proper placement
What qualifications you will need:
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Technical School Diploma or Certificate in EKG Technician Certification or 500 Clinical Hours worked in the past 12 months as a monitor technician
- CPR Certification Required
- Basic Rhythm Recognition Certification Preferred
