    Job Summary and Qualifications

    What you will do in this role:

    • Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Texas Nursing Practice Act, with emphasis on nursing process outcomes for oncology patients with emphasis on blood cancer and disorders.
    • Determine the predictable or unpredictable health status and health needs of patients (individual and family) through interpretation of health data and preventive practice in collaboration with patients and interdisciplinary health care team members.
    • Utilize a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care.
    • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient.
    • Formulate a nursing care plan based on determination of nursing diagnoses and identified problems.
    • Implement nursing care within the RNs scope of practice, including compliance with other laws that apply to the practice setting.
    • Develop and implement teaching plans for patients concerning promotion, maintenance and restoration of health.

    What qualifications you will need:
    • Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license accepted.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required within 24 months of hire into RN position.
    • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS
    • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS required within six months of hire or transfer
    • ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate course required within 60 days of hire or transfer

    Experienced Oncology RN with Level 2 Competencies or prior Critical Care experience required:

    • Level 2 Competencies:
    • Graft vs Host disease identification and management
    • Management of Cellular Therapy Complications
    • Tumor Lysis Syndrome Identification/Oncologic
    • Infection prevention - neutropenic patients
    • Administration of blood products
    • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration and management (Cert)
    • Disease knowledge (leukemia, lymphomas, general blood dyscrasias)
