We have a dynamic opportunity for a Software Engineer with proven Java, JavaScript, and functional programming skills. You will be joining an existing team that is successfully delivering for our customers and will employ your talents to continue to solve key problems of international importance.
This position will be located in sunny San Diego, California. All work will be performed on site.
This next chapter includes rehosting to and verifying the existing application operation on a new hardware platform and development of a new React front-end user interface and Java services backend using Agile Scrum methodologies.

Primary Responsibilities
- You will work with the team to ensure successful software development and execution using Agile Scrum software development practices.
- The primary focus in this role is back-end development.
- Using industry trending technologies like React and functional programming, you will develop and design new web applications and modify existing applications in Java, SQL, JavaScript, and HTML 5 in a Solaris X86 environment.
- Support definition and decomposition of epics based on technical discussion with the application stakeholders.
- Contribute to defining sprint user story content based on understanding of inter-dependencies and prioritization of the backlog.
- Analyze capability requirements and collaborate with scrum team members to produce testable implementations.
- Collaborate with scrum team members to define required services and implement solutions using these services.
- Develop user stories that can be implemented within a 4-week sprint, breaking them down into discrete tasks as appropriate.
- Design, implement, test, and debug capabilities developed as part of user stories defined in the sprint plan.
- Maintain design and coding standards and ensure standards are followed in your review of team member pull requests.
- Participate in sprint reviews demonstrating your sprint user stories and in sprint planning sessions.
- As part of the highly efficient team, you will be responsible to document, manage configuration, test, and debug software products.
- You will also be providing backup support to the lead database engineer.
- Learn the NATO application problem domain to lead and contribute to technical discussions for application development.
- Support application training of international users at the Leidos San Diego facility.
- Support installation and user acceptance at the users facility in Belgium.
Basic Qualifications
- Position requires US citizenship and an active Secret DoD security clearance.
- Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of related, hands-on experience.
- Proficiency with a Relational Database Management System (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and SQL programming. Oracle DB is preferred.
- 5+ years of front-end development including advanced JavaScript (ES6+), ReactJS (V16.8+), typescript, CSS, HTML, and browser development tools (Chrome/React DevTools).
- Experience with JavaScript package management and build tools such as npm, Vite, yarn, webpack.
- Experience using JavaScript libraries such as React Bootstrap, Material UI, Axios, Moment.js, date-fns.
- Experience using legacy languages like Fortran and C.
- Experience with Solaris X86.
- Experience working in virtual machine environments.
- Ability to complete software tasks within the sprint based on your estimates.
- Ability to research technical alternatives and come to sound conclusions.
- Ability to be proactive and voice opinions when identifying issues/concerns.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with web application technologies (e.g., JBoss, Apache Tomcat, etc.) and development of RESTful web services.
- Experience using RESTful APIs, developing web clients using RESTful web services and JSON data structures.
- Experience with Web Socket APIs.
- Proficiency in React/Redux, Node.js; related JavaScript frameworks such as AngularJS.
- Experience with Probability of Damage Calculator (PDCalc) or other mathematical modeling tools.
- Experience with geospatial programming.
- Familiarity with ESRI.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Comfortable with Git/Bitbucket, Confluence, and JIRA for source code control, documentation, and ticket tracking.
- Prior DoD Top Secret security clearance or one in progress.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
