    Job Summary and Qualifications

    We are seeking a Registered Transition Nurse in Newborn Nursery for our facility to ensure we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care.     What you will do in this role:

    As a Transition Registered Nurse (RN) in Newborn Nursery, you will coordinate and provide direct patient care. You will advocate for the needs of newborns after delivery, assess and assist in safe extrauterine life adjustments of the newborn, monitor the stability of the newborn, and assess any anomalies or signs of distress. You will complete initial head-to-toe assessment, medication administration, and any ongoing assessments of the newborn and mother during the two-hour transition period.

    • You will create comprehensive nursing care plans that promote, facilitate, and maintain newborn wellness
    • You will facilitate and provide newborn care at the bedside while promoting skin-to-skin, breastfeeding, bonding, and transition support
    • You will assess and re-assess the newborns respiratory and airway support
    • You will evaluate, implement, and document patient care interventions
    • You will ensure physician orders for the newborn are noted and correctly transcribed
    • You will respond to the developmental needs of the patient and family by providing individualized patient and family education
    • You will keep physicians and supervisors aware of significant information regarding the patient and family
    • Participates in Performance Improvement activity


    What qualifications you will need:

    • Experience and Licenses/Certifications Needed
    • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
    • 1 year of experience in Newborn, Mother Baby, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or Newborn Transition care setting
    • Second skill-set can include Labor and Delivery, Mother Baby, and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
    • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required per Healthcare policy
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required per Healthcare policy
    • Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support (S.T.A.B.L.E.) certification preferred
