    Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Safety Manager to join our team in Mason City, IA.

    The Safety Manager role is based in Mason City, IA and reports directly to the Region Director of Health and Safety.

    What youll get to do

    Develops, implements and supports safety programs, safety training, provides technical support, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and ensures adequate recordkeeping at the area and plant level. Reviews employee safety programs to determine adequacy and effectiveness. Coordinate, administer and ensure plant safety programs are in line with corporate safety policies and practices.

    Develops and implements processes and product safety features that will reduce employees exposure to chemical, physical, and/or biological work hazards.

    Conducts compliance inspections. Manages the participation in Federal and State Safety and Health inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents, and identifying safety measures. Coordinates loss prevention inspections.

    Conducts regular safety audits. Inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, safety-related regulatory required documentation, to ensure safety regulation compliance. Recommends safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation. Evaluates adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.

    Investigates industrial incidents, injuries, and occupational diseases to determine primary and root causes and preventive/preventative measures. Reports or reviews findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections.

    Interviews management and employees to obtain information about workplace incidents.

    Works with site management to assure that all employees, visitors, and contractors are properly trained in job hazards and safe work practices.

    Assists in developing and administering plant safety training programs. Ensures that site management maintains accurate record keeping of safety compliance and employee training records.

    Maintain knowledge of current best practices and changes in regulations/policies.

    Provide input into the purchase of safety-related equipment

    Ensures safety systems are maintained and data is accurate. Completes required reporting for Corporate or Group analysis of safety statistics in a timely and accurate manner.

    Reviews plans and specifications for the construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.

    Works with area management to effectively implement company and area safety programs and requirements.

    Essential Experience and Skills

    Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelors degree and 5 or more years of experience directly related to the job. Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or work towards such certification preferred.

    Requires thorough knowledge of all applicable laws, MSHA/OSHA/Marine regulations, safe work practices, accident prevention programs. Basic understanding of applicable state workers' compensation, company GL, and vehicular insurance requirements/standards.

    Requires knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.

    Requires thorough knowledge of applicable tools and technologies to be used on the job including Word, Excel, and company database programs.

    High level of written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.

    Able to conduct effective training meetings.

    Preferred Experience and Skills

    Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or notable progress toward such certifications

    Cement or mining industry experience

    Master's degree or relevant continuing education and training

    Work Environment

    Role operates primarily a professional office environment, but requires conducting business at manufacturing locations and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels.
