    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager-Environmental Health & Safety.

    The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) works with EH&S staff and other members of the NYU Langone community to foster an exemplary culture and climate around Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (EOHS). The Manager's primary function includes managing, monitoring, and improving assigned EOHS programs.

    Job Responsibilities:

      • COMPLIANCE: Ensures assigned EOHS programs and Safety Policies maximize compliance with the diverse EOHS mandates of agencies such as TJC, CMS, the FDNY, the NYS DOH, the NYC DOMHH, OSHA, the EPA, the NYS DEC, the NYC DEP, the US DHHS, and the USDA. Stays current with institutional policies and procedures, implements and communicates requirements to staff, as appropriate.
      • FISCAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: Develops and manages the budget for assigned EOHS programs in accordance with institutional guidelines.
      • REGULATORY INTERFACE: As assigned, interacts with regulatory agencies.
      • PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Maintains technical and management expertise by participating in continuing education, professional organizations and related activities.
      • STAFF DEVELOPMENT: Hires, supervises, develops, trains, motivates, evaluates, and counsels professional and administrative staff who report to him/her.
      • COMMITTEE SERVICE: Serves and/or contributes EOHS guidance and support to assigned institutional committees.
      • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manages assigned remediation, risk assessment, and special projects.
      • PROGRAM STANDARDIZATION: Manages integration of assigned organizational facilities/units into NYU Langone EOHS programs. Collaborates with others to achieve standardization.
      • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: Manages the development and improvement of assigned EOHS programs.
      • POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Develops and updates Safety Policies for assigned EOHS programs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in occupational health and safety or another applicable discipline. Masters degree preferred.
    • 10 years experience in health and safety, with at least 3 years experience in an academic, healthcare, government or related environment.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of pertinent regulations and standards, including official interpretations, and guidelines, scientific literature, and technical issues.
    • Ability to establish productive relationships with colleagues, vendors, and regulators.
    • Ability to manage a heavy workload, to manage competing demands on time and resources, and to prioritize effectively. Excellent interpersonal, team building, and written and verbal communication skills.
    • Advanced communication and information processing skills.
    • Proficiency analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. Required to obtain HAZWOPER certification within 6 months of employment.
    • Required to obtain FDNY Certificate of Fitness as Fire/Life Safety Director within first year of employment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters Degree in an applicable discipline.
    • Certification or licensing for at least 1 of the following: CIH, CSP, PE, ARM, CHST, or OHST. FDNY Certificate of Fitness as Fire/Life Safety Director (FLSD). Current HazWoper certification.

    Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $76,721.83 - $126,937.20 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
