    Details

    The ideal candidate has:

    • M.S. or Ph.D in medical physics and two years work experience or graduation from a diagnostic imaging physics residency
    • American Board of Radiology certification in Radiologic Medical Physics
    • Clinical experience in diagnostic imaging that includes general radiation safety, development and review of Operating, Safety, and Emergency Procedures, and knowledge of clinical protocols.

    Responsibilities

    Ensure the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment, while protecting patients and staff from radiation.


    Responsibilities:

    • Perform required calibrations on equipment. Recommend and justify new equipment and products for the department.
    • Conduct equipment performance reviews as needed and implement quality control procedures for imaging devices.
    • Recommend radiation safety procedures to areas using radiation.
    • Educate staff in radiation safety practices.
    • Support all physics aspects of patient treatment including consultation with radiation oncologists, calculation of radiation doses, design and fabrication of treatment aids and assurance of the accuracy of all treatment parameters.

    Requirements

    Licensure / Certification / Registration:

    • Medical Physicist obtained within 36 Months (3 years) of hire date or job transfer date.

    Education:

    • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
      degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

    Additional Preferences

    • M.S. or Ph.D in medical physics and two years work experience or graduation from a diagnostic imaging physics residency
    • American Board of Radiology certification in Radiologic Medical Physics obtained within 36 Months (3 years) of hire date or job transfer date.
    • Clinical experience in diagnostic imaging that includes general radiation safety, development and review of Operating, Safety, and Emergency Procedures, and knowledge of clinical protocols.
    • Experience with acquisition and processing of images in performing all tests required as accreditation criteria by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and The Joint Commission (TJC).
    • Technical experience and understanding of ACR and TJC criteria, process, and compliance. Familiarity with applicable regulatory guides and regulations.
    • Experience with auditing records relating to all aspects of the medical use of ionizing radiation including inspection requirements, radiation dose limits, and operating and safety procedures.
    • Understand dose calculations on patients, personnel, and members of the public based on external exposure to x-radiation.
    • Understand and apply quantitative processes of shielding design for x-ray rooms (CT, radiographic, and fluoroscopy).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
