Tooling Engineer
REPORTS TO: Tooling Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: n/a
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
ROLE: Responsible for leading activities to manage Genpak tooling CAD files. This includes collecting and filing new tooling CAD files, measuring existing tooling and updating or creating CAD files for them as they cycle through the tooling shop, making engineering revisions as directed to repair or improve existing tooling, providing tooling drawings and solids to the Longview Tooling Shop as needed for repairs and parts, and updating filed CAD files with any tooling revisions that were sourced by tooling vendors. Appropriately communicate information clearly and accurately whether by emails, reports, or meetings.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Collect and upload new tooling CAD files into data management database.
- Update and/or create tooling CAD files for existing tooling.
- Make tooling revision files for internal and/or external suppliers.
- Support the procurement of new production tooling as necessary.
- Maintain a current list of tooling standards.
- Attend tooling review meetings.
- Travel up to 30% routinely new tool inspections, new tool trials, plant support, etc.
- Support both innovation and commercialization groups by providing tooling related data and feedback.
- Provide input to the Plants and Process Engineering teams to develop automation and improvement to operations, as necessary.
- Participate in the troubleshooting of issues with production tooling.
- Assist with tooling shop supervision when the tooling manager is out of the office.
- Other duties as necessary

- Demonstrates ability to identify and validate fitness for use requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to accurately use various measuring instruments.

- Ability to provide design input for new gauging equipment.

- Demonstrates ability to identify industry specific regulations and adhere to industry standards.

- Demonstrate ability to understand and actively participate in all company safety programs, policies and procedures.
Planning:
- Thorough understanding of proper machining practices.
- Good understanding of basic thermoforming processes preferred.
- Good understanding of trim tool repair procedures preferred.
- Good understanding of mold repair procedures preferred.
- Demonstrates understanding of resource availability and capabilities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum five years of technical experience
- BS Engineering or equivalent experience
- Machining experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the Plastics Industry preferred.
- Speaking and presentation skills to conduct effective meetings.
- Above average knowledge of PC and Network based software including Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database applications.
- Above average CAD skills with SolidWorks experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of plastic physical properties and behaviors
