    THE ROLE AND THE COMPANY

Heidelberg Materials provides the materials to build our future. Our future is sustainable. Our future is digital. And it goes way beyond cement, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete. Heidelberg Materials North America, previously known as Lehigh Hanson, operates more than 450 locations with approximately 9,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada.??

Heidelberg Materials seeks to future proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations, and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.

As an HROC Remote Optimization Specialist, you will work onsite in our Irving, Texas office and be responsible for continuous monitoring, oversight and taking appropriate action in the cement manufacturing process for several geographic locations from a single, centralized operations center. You will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of multiple plants, adhering to established procedures and protocols. This position will work in a team where schedules will be shifting to maintain a 24/7 operation, and therefore will have night shift rotations as part of work schedule.

    What Youll Get to Do

    • Training Period: Successfully complete a comprehensive training program designed to provide in-depth knowledge of cement manufacturing processes, plant operations, and key responsibilities. This program may span 9 to 12 months and will include familiarization on-site at the plant, classroom instruction and practical hands-on training with specific milestones to be achieved.
    • Remote Enabling: Monitor and direct the cement manufacturing process from the centralized operations center, utilizing a distributed control system (DCS) and human-machine interface (HMI) to oversee multiple plant operations. Continuously monitor equipment status, process parameters, and alarms to ensure the plant operates within specified parameters.
    • Optimization: Ensure safe and continuous operation, product quality, and compliance with environmental requirements in coordination with plant-based personnel and other remote operations engineers.
    • Process Control: Assess and adjust process variables, such as feed rates, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, to optimize process efficiency and product quality. Ensure smooth transitions during startup, shutdown, and process upsets, following standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
    • Equipment Monitoring: Monitor and adjust various equipment, including crushers, kilns, mills, conveyors, and control valves, to maintain smooth operation and prevent disruptions. Oversee routine inspections, log readings, and report any abnormalities or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel for several geographic locations.
    • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot process and equipment issues in a timely manner. Collaborate with plant and HROC staff to resolve problems, minimizing downtime and production losses. Escalate complex issues to HROC functional staff or supervisor as necessary.
    • Safety and Compliance: Follow established safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Comply with regulatory requirements and company policies, reporting any safety incidents or near misses promptly. Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to enhance safety awareness.
    • Data Recording and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of process parameters, equipment readings, and operational activities. Generate production reports, shift handover logs, and incident reports as required. Assist in the analysis of operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
    • Emergency Response: Be familiar with emergency response procedures and participate in emergency drills. Take appropriate actions in the event of emergencies or abnormal conditions, following established protocols and working collaboratively with the emergency response team.
    • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of plant operations by providing guidance on process optimization, participating in improvement initiatives, and providing feedback on operational procedures and controls.

    Essential Experience and Skills

    • Technical certifications or vocational training in process operations or a related field may substitute for Bachelor of Science/Engineering, preferably Chemical, Industrial, or Manufacturing.
    • Previous experience in a similar industrial environment in operations is desirable, but not required due to the comprehensive training program. This position offers a unique opportunity for a 9-to-12-month training period that includes comprehensive training in the cement manufacturing process/equipment and key responsibilities.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make quick decisions using independent judgement and take appropriate actions during process upsets or equipment malfunctions.
