    InspectionTechnicians Marathon Pipe Line

    The Inspection Technician position is the onsite construction quality control representative for Marathon Pipe Line projects. In this role, the inspection technician ensures the contractor adheres to Marathon standards and project specifications. The Inspection Technician is the primary point of contact for field construction and helps coordinate onsite resources with the project team as needed. Typical responsibilities of this position include:

    • Create as-built drawings, weld logs, and able to use Microsoft products to generate required project documentation (typically in Excel)

    • Perform QC checks throughout the construction process to ensure standard adherence.

    • Recognize, report, and document nonconformities to project specifications.

    • Use various mobile, computer, and web-based programs to report daily progress and document construction activities.

    • Coordinate with Project Leaders, MPL Operations, and the MPL Operations Control Center.

    • Provide feedback to MPL Process Leaders based on project execution for process improvements.

    • Training will be provided to perform visual inspection and magnetic particle inspection of welds, but the candidate must be able to pass the required eye exams with or without corrective eyewear.

    • Be well organized and able to prioritize work tasks based on the criticality and timing of the work.

    • Ability to hold individuals accountable to MPL standards.

    • Onsite champion of MPL safety culture and processes.

    An Inspection Technician will become familiar with all aspects of pipeline construction and maintenance, including excavation, welding, bolting, pipefitting, and coating. Experience with software, such as Adobe, Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn and use new software/apps is required. Good communication skills are required for relaying information to and from the project team.Additional industry certifications such as AWS CWI, NACE CIP, API 1169/1184, etc. are preferred.

    The position will require daily travel to and from the worksite with frequent overnight hotel stays, Marathon Pipe Line will furnish a company vehicle, all inspection equipment, and cover all travel expenses.

    Education & Experience:High School Diploma/GED required along with 2 years or more work experience inspecting pipelines/oil refining or an Associate Degree in an Industrial Technical Field with 0 years work experience.


    Travel Required:Up to 95% (daily travel); 70% to 90% (overnight travel), typically home on the weekends.Valid Driver License is required.

    Locations: Lima, OH. Willing to consider any MPL location in the Ohio Valley Region which includes the states of Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
