Legal Counsel
ADP is hiring a Legal Counsel. ADP Canada is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal support for ADP's Canadian business operations/unit, based in Toronto, Ontario.

As Legal Counsel you will report to the VP Managing Counsel of ADP Canada Co. and interface with all levels of division and corporate management, including sales, service delivery and business operations. The Legal Counsel is responsible, together with other members of the legal team, for supporting the day-to-day legal needs of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific responsibilities include:- Acquire knowledge and understanding of the legal risks and compliance issues associated with the business in order to provide proactive advice and strategies to address and manage these risks.
- Provide balanced, strategic and practical legal advice to all levels of the business relating to ADP Canada's business operations.
- Work collaboratively and partners with management, other ADP lawyers, outside counsel (as necessary), business specialists, field associates, operations group, and the IT organization.
- Understand and interpret a wide variety of complex client, partnership and related Human Capital Management contracts under limited supervision.
- Assist with the management of service escalation (i.e. threatened litigation) and litigation files, including liaising with Corporate Litigation team and external litigation counsel.
- Monitor and stay abreast of legislative changes on a federal, provincial and territorial basis, as well as industry trends and developments that can impact the Canada business.
- Work on special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:- Completion of a law degree (LL.B. or equivalent degree).
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, or another provincial bar is required
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant post-call legal practice, preferably gained with a top law firm or as in-house counsel for a technology corporation, and with a focus on product coverage, regulatory law (i.e. privacy, AML, etc.), dispute resolution/litigation and understanding and interpreting complex agreements
- Experience in working with a large matrixed global organization
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, strong negotiation skills with good business judgment, and time and project management skills necessary
- Labor and Employment law knowledge and experience is an asset
- Fluency in written and spoken legal French is an asset

- Ability to effectively explain complex legal principles to non-legal business leaders and stakeholders
- Ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision and as a member of a legal team
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability;
- Ability to multi-task and to prioritize workload under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to think strategically and creatively based on knowledge of the business
- Flexible and have the ability to adapt to the needs of a growing business
- Detail oriented with strong attention to accuracy and problem solving
- Strong work ethic focused on providing excellent customer service
- Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
