Engineering Manager
What you will do
As a member of the Sustainability Infrastructure Services (SIS) Team, the Engineering Manager will support and manage engineering tasks. The manager will support a engineering team to participate in the design-build and SIS infrastructure projects as a Facility Management/Building Engineering subject matter expert providing support to the Site Customer Business Managers.
You will design conceptual solutions and operating plans for our sites. You are to have advanced understanding of energy management, security fire systems, building automation systems and services, operations and maintenance, facilities management, and are to be able to combine these capabilities to solve critical customer needs over the long term.
You will oversee contractors of medium to large complex commercial, industrial, institutional building construction projects from financial close through commissioning and start-up of operations. This is a site-based position that requires the ability to travel up to 50%.
How you will do it
Possesses a strong understanding of the regulatory, legislative and business environment, as well as procurement requirements unique to facility management
Participates in design meetings to provide specialized engineering and energy advice to the CBM during the design and construction phase of the project
Review operational site for operational efficiency opportunities (engineering, energy, and operations)
Provide operational support to operational sites to maintain critical key performance indicators.
Accountable for incorporating more JCI capabilities into customer solutions, shortening the solutions development cycle, increasing win rates, applying appropriate solution best practices and minimizing development costs
Assists in shop drawing reviews. Reviews design submittals to ensure major M&E and energy deliverables are carried out with no adverse impact to Facility Management from RFP through the Construction stage through the Operating stage
Participate in all design meetings with Architects, Consultants, and Engineers to review and influence suitability of the design for the Operating stage
Review the equipment selection based on Energy Efficiency, Operations, Controllability, Maintenance, Accessibility, and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) analysis to strive for the lowest Net Present Value (NPV)
Review D&C team Mechanical and Electrical drawings and specifications to ensure suitability in relation to FM requirements
Delivers to Project Co Energy Consumption Guarantee Target for NPV calculations, manages Energy Modeling Consultant, works with D&C team on required energy modeling inputs for as accurate as possible development of energy target, and works with energy modeler on developing energy model and Final Report.
Review M&E Value engineering proposals and provides evaluation based on FM requirements. Assists Customer Business Manager in developing the associated variations and change orders particularly in assessing the Operations and Maintenance and Life-cycle cost impact to amend to the agreed pricing.
Understand contract terms and conditions, specifically with regards to KPIs and payment mechanism
Understand the Performance Based contract terms and obligations
Development of maintenance operating procedures, standard operating procedures, and emergency operating procedures
You will be required to develop emergency operating procedures which is necessary for maintaining uptime and avoiding operational risks
What we look for
Completion of post-secondary education in engineering; Mechanical Engineering degree, Electrical Engineering degree, or technical diploma is preferred. A combination of education and experience in construction and facility management will be considered.
You must have advanced understanding of building HVAC system, energy management, security fire systems, building automation systems and services, operations and maintenance, facility management, and are able to combine these capabilities to solve critical customer needs over the short and long term.
Subject matter expertise in Building services engineering including HVAC, building automation, and fire and life safety.
Knowledge of battery manufacturing plant, industrial background is nice to have.
5+ years of experience in engineering and facility operations is preferred.
5+ years of team management/project management is preferred
Ability to plan and execute projects and a high degree of effectiveness in team leadership
Demonstrates customer service orientation with excellent written and oral communication skills
Possesses strong project management skills
Excellent verbal and communications skills
Ability to travel up to 25% required
