The Lactation Consultant is a proficient clinician who provides care in a skilled and effective manner. Utilizing appropriate decision making skills and exhibiting competence in the clinical, cognitive and interpersonal skills required to independently and safely manage the routine breastfeeding care of the patient. The Lactation Consultant establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and evaluates outcomes within established standards of practice.
The Lactation Consultant's scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the department and position levels will include knowledge and practice that is in accordance with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners' Code of Ethics, the International Lactation Consultant Associations' Standards of Practice, The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory requirements.
The Children's Health Center Lactation Consultant's scope of responsibility, duties and accountability will include knowledge and practice that is in accordance with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners' Code of Ethics, the International Lactation Consultant Associations' Standards of Practice, The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory requirements.
The Children's Health Center Lactation Consultant's promotes Family Centered Care in a respectful environment and provides education and instruction in a manner that the patient and her family can understand.
Position schedule: Monday (8am - 4:30pm), Wednesday (1pm - 4pm, and Friday (8am - 4:30pm).
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
- One (1) year of Lactation consulting experience (hospital setting preferred).
- Registered Lactation Consultant by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
- Valid Basic Life Support Certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
