Project Manager with Clean Transportation Experience
Remote with 5% travel,the resource is expected to be located in NYS
2 years (with opportunity for extension)
Desired Start Date: 3/11/2024
pay rate 75.00 per hour
Initiative:Environmental Bond Act - New York School Bus Incentive Program - Support school districts in initiating and completing fleet electrification plans in support of meeting the 2027 and 2035 zero-emission school bus requirements.
IT systems that will be used:Salesforce, NEIS, Microsoft Office
Contractor must have PC, cell phone, and reliable high-speed internet available for assignment while remote, but NYSERDA will provide a workstation when onsite.
Education:Bachelors degree required.
Client Notes:- PM would manage and execute intake process, review of applications, familiarizing, scope of work review, budgeting, finalizing contracts, and then managing the projects. 693 school districts.
- Supports the Bond Act, school bus incentive programs. Mayor mandated that all school bus must be fully zero emission by 2027.
- Bond Act supports this transition to electric school buses
- NYSERDA supports school districts with 'fleet electrification plans' - analysis of what is required to meet requirements (electrical infrastructure, routing analysis, charging plans, phasing plans, etc.).
Mandatory Qualifications:- 3-6 years of experience. Strong project management skills to be able to oversee many projects at the same time.
- Prior experience or familiarity with electric vehicle work, engaging with utilities, electrical engineering / transportation background.
- Exposure/experience with site layouts, drafting one-line diagrams, etc. to ensure the approach being proposed is feasible.
- PM would not be in charge of reviewing electrical design, will be high level design
Ability to interact with outside stakeholders competently and confidently, including fleets, school districts and school bus operators, consultants, charging station hosts, and utilities. - Ability to learn systems quickly. Ability to stay organized and follow/set processes for managing many projects is essential.
- Has well developed understanding of relevant technical principles and their application to a program area.
- Develops/formulates Deployment issues, problems and needs in at least one technical area.
- Has acknowledged expertise at conceptual level of technical skills and knowledge in at least one program area.
- Has basic understanding of State energy/environmental economic development issues.

Responsibilities:- Lead and support the technical assistance intake and application process for school bus fleet operators.
- Review and approve applications including scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for technical assistance.
- Support and manage all aspects of technical assistance projects including technical review (specifically on validity of route analysis, charging plan development, and site planning), client engagement, and progress/budget tracking.
- Engage with utilities to ensure that school districts and bus fleet operators are engaging with the utilities as needed and required by project SOWs.
- Support broad engagement with schools and school bus fleets to inform them about the opportunities for school bus electrification.
- Track, document, and report-out on projects as-needed, including number of districts, stage of projects, number of vehicles, progress on utility engagement
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with utility engagement, vehicle fleet operations, and/or school district operations would be helpful but is not required.
- Basic understanding of clean transportation, electric vehicles, and electric vehicle charging is strongly preferred.
- Background in civil or electrical engineering and/or transportation planning is not required but strongly preferred.
