Student Nurse Extern - Summer 2024

The Student Nurse Extern Program is open to nursing students who are within 1 year of their anticipated graduation from an accredited RN program. Through a mentoring relationship with a Registered Nurse, Student Nurse Externs are able to provide direct patient care. Externs practice within the scope of their LNA licensure while still receiving observational learning experiences by working one-on-one with their RN mentor/preceptor. The 2024 program starts May 28, 2024 and ends August 8, 2024.

Student Nurse Externs are per diem employees, which can allow for some scheduling flexibility; however, it is required that participants be available for the duration of the program and for the designated weekly hours. Hours will be based on unit and could be offered as full time or part time.

Student Nurse Externs will also be required to attend several mandatory in-person education events during the program.

Available units will be relayed to qualified candidates via email and interviews will be scheduled between February and late April.

Selected participants are required to be licensed as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Vermont prior to starting the program, no later than May 13, 2024. It is highly recommended that licensure is obtained by April 15th, 2024.
