    Manager, Data Engineering

    Your Role

    The Data Engineering Development team is engaged in developing and maintaining complex technology solutions for the enterprise. The Manager, Data Engineering will report to the Director, Data Engineering. In this role you will be responsible for overall implementation of departmental goals and objectives. You will manage, build and lead our data engineering team and help the members of your team grow both technically and professionally.     Your Work

    In this role, you will:

    • Provide technical leadership in development activities on concurrent complex data projects with multi-source, on and offshore teams
    • Provide development guidance for highly complex data pipeline development involving multiple sources and complex business rules to transform data.
    • Lead development of Portfolio development plans, leads in estimating effort required for various data initiatives and to build business cases new initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement in operational performance and notify management of issues and problems requiring immediate attention.
    • Provide technical guidance, mentoring to engineers and developers in designing of code and implementing large-scale, complex enterprise applications requiring high performance and availability
    • Work collaboratively to drive adoption and enforcement of data integration development design principles, smart practices, guidelines and policies
    • Partner with IT PMO, demand and capacity, architects, technical leads, cross functional business and IT teams for strategic and operational projects aligned with business priorities
    • Partner with Vendors, Technical teams and Vendor Management to review, define and support statement of work activities aligning with scope and delivery dates
    • Consult and make recommendations to management on significant issues
    • Participate in key technical and design discussions with technical solution leads in the team as a hands-on manager

    Your Knowledge and Experience

    • ??Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceand minimum 7 years prior relevant experience, including 3 years of management experience gained as a team leader, supervisor or project/program manager
    • Requires an understanding of basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching and process execution, work organization, risk management and delegation
    • Strong experience in data management, big data management, master data management, data warehouse, data virtualization, data quality, data reconciliation, data governance and analytics design pattern
    • Hand-on experience in DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Netezza, MySQL, SQL, ETL and Data Quality tools (Informatica), ELT, Shell Scripting, Denodo, IBM MDM Infosphere, Test Data Management, Hadoop and procedural languages etc
    • Experience is Cloud tech stack (Azure, GCP or AWS), Snowflake, DBT Cloud, Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services (IICS) and other related cloud technologies
    • Working knowledge of standard software development tools, including incident tracking, version control, release management, subversion change management, testing tools and systems
    • Strong technical understanding of data modeling (Kimbal, Inmon and Data Vault2.0), data mining, data integration, data architecture, data warehousing and data quality techniques
    • Experience with agile iterative development life cycle methodologies and application of those principles, especially agile development practices
    • Strong analytic, process flow, problem-solving, communication, customer service, organization skills, required. Demonstrated experience working with vendor partners, cross-functional and development teams in terms of end to end technical delivery
    • Prior Healthcare payer experience is a plus

    Pay Rate:

    The pay range for this role is: $ 118800.00 to $ 178200.00 for California.

Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
