Job SummaryMaintains responsibility for preparation of the cardiac, vascular and transplant surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining advanced, in-depth knowledge of vascular, cardiac and transplant procedures both pediatric and adult surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Integrates services with cath lab staff for procedures requiring expertise in both cath lab procedures and surgical cardiac procedures. Serves as member of the CV/PV team and be available to take team specific call for urgent/emergent cardiac, vascular and transplant cases.Essential Functions- Provides sterile instruments and supplies during cardio-thoracic, vascular, and heart/lung transplant surgical procedures.
- Preceptors new staff members and serves on at least one departmental committee.
- Demonstrates superior knowledge of the various surgical sterile supplies, equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation specific to cardio-thoracic and vascular cases as well as competent in the use of a variety of computer hardware.
- Performs surgical sponge, needle and instrument counts.
- Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment and assists in performing circulating skills and tasks.
- Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments and medications/solutions for each surgical case.
- Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
Qualifications- Required High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preferred Associate's Degree
- 1 year of relevant experience as a surgical technologist or 6 months CVT (cardio-thoracic/vascular/transplant) surgical technologist experience. Preferred
- LIC-License Practical Nursing (LPN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
- CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - AST Association of Surgical Technologist 1 Year required Or
- CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting 1 Year required
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
