    JOB SUMMARY: The Manager, Web Solution Engineering & Operations is a key engineering, and leadership role responsible for front-end applications leveraging web technologies at Universal Parks & Resorts. This individual leads a team of talented technologists to design, develop, deploy, and support critical front-end applications globally including websites highlighting guest experiences, eCommerce storefronts, reservation systems, Universal Brand consistency, and other future front-end experiences. This role is focused on delivery and support of quality, high-end, best-in-class experiences for our guests and business partners.

    This role along with their team, will be responsible for front-end software engineering solutions using web, new consumer facing technologies; and will be a thought leader for modular design, software reusability, empowerment of our business partners, and release integrity. Partners with other Digital Technology groups, Corporate Technology, Infrastructure, Security, Product, Innovation, PMO; business divisions; functional support partners like Finance, Sourcing, and HR. This position is focused on innovation, design and development of new digital experiences based on existing physical theme park experiences and launching new businesses in both physical and virtual spaces.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Technology Strategy & Delivery
      • Manage day-to-day activities in support of global web team and front-end engineering strategy, design, development for UPR Digital and Technology.
      • Oversee the implementation of simple, scalable, flexible, secure, and cost-effective technology design & engineering.
      • Leads technical development team for digital and guest / customer interfacing applications like web experiences, eCommerce storefront, and others.
      • Proactively manage a mixture of internal resources and external partners to achieve both best in class technology solutions while achieving speed to market.
      • Acts as key subject matter expert in the rapidly evolving digital technology arena including all forms of web engineering, and cloud architecture.
      • Oversees the day-to-day incorporation of high-quality automation of processes, develops, quality engineering, and release management, cloud into every-day work.
    • Cross-Team Collaboration, Team Culture, Staff Development
      • Lead and mentor direct reports/team members in day-to-day management and administration of UPR digital transformation.
      • Work with executive leadership in providing clear decisions along with their implementation. Coach and build confidence in staff to make and implement good technical and business decisions using technology and analytical thinking.
      • Promote working culture of accountability and technology depth to support Universals physical and virtual business aspirations.
      • Support and champion Universal Culture of team-member satisfaction through effective communication, planning, risk management, and coaching of high-potential candidates.
      • Work seamlessly with other Digital and Technology & teams and leaders to architect and build best in class solutions and experiences.
    • Platform Stability & Operational/Delivery Excellence
      • Ensures achievement of consistently high platform reliability and uptime of digital technology solutions to ensure superior Digital Show Quality for Universals digital solutions.
      • Drive focus on operational excellence throughout the organization & partners, including (but not limited to) processes, governance, efficient working approaches, collaboration.
      • Ensure positive trend in key performance indicators of the digital platform. Partner with PMO & Product for on-time delivery of solutions, proactively mitigate risk of scope creep and business impact during transformational change.
    • Administrative
      • Manage appropriate departmental budgets; review/approve related budget expenditures with act as an owner mentality.
      • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelors degree is required and preferably in a technical field.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • 7+ years in progressive technology & software engineering.
    • 3+ years experience leading digital, web, custom software engineering; proven success engineering eCommerce/online shopping experiences in a tourism/entertainment industry.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    • Solid technology strategy and deep engineering knowledge on web, and cloud technologies (AWS/Azure Cloud preferred); end-to-end B2B and B2C business models.
    • Experience in large scale global technology implementations; program planning and implementation.
    • Expertise in front-end/back-end integration design through various integration methods; familiarity with various web technologies including hybrid web/mobile, and video/rich content applications.
    • Demonstrated experience with modern JS frameworks (e.g.: React, Angular, NodeJS, StencilJS), SQL and NoSQL DBMS (e.g.: SQL Server, Postgresql, Mysql, Redis, MongoDB), Object oriented development (e.g.: Java, Node.js, Go, Rust or .NET/C#), REST based microservice APIs, DevOps & CI/CD.
    • Experience with enterprise CMS, CDN, Global Design Systems, DAM tools, and WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards.
    • Experience in executive communication, relationship building and decision making; experience with stakeholder and partner management.
    • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills, and be able to explain complex concepts both concisely and simply to technical & non-technical audience; also, able to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers.
    • Demonstrated ability to define and execute strategic initiatives.
