    CDL Driver

    The essential functions and basic duties of the CDL Driver are to perform pre and post trip inspection of their vehicle, utilizing knowledge of safe and effective loading/unloading and the proper operation of their equipment (tractor/trailer/yard truck/ straight truck. As a Delivery Driver, you are also responsible for reviewing paperwork for completeness and accuracy, checking orders for the correct number of cases, delivering and unloading products utilizing equipment, including tractor trailer, ramps, pallet jacks, load bars, and other devices which assist in delivery. Operating vehicle safely while maintaining DOT compliance and following all local, state, and Federal requirements. Ensuring on-time deliver while communicating professionally with customers and vendors.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Receive route paperwork, truck and trailer assignment and instructions for route.
    • Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and acknowledge prior report for each piece of equipment. Provide written report for post trip inspection for all units. Document and report any defects or concerns with tractor and/or trailer within the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
    • Conduct pre-trip, inter trip, and post trip inspection for all units operated in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulation 49 C.F.R. 396.11.
    • Verify load and load destination and proper load securement.
    • Couple the tractor and trailer, inspect the fifth wheel plate, release handle and locking jaws.
    • Scale load by gross weight and/or axles/tandems according to trailer type and state regulations. If needed, adjust the load to redistribute weight.
    • Follow route plan and meet all delivery / pick up requirements for each store.
    • Complete store clean outs as contracted. Receive and load items (e.g., salvage, assets, returns, composts, bails, egg trays) for return to distribution center as needed.
    • Communicate any issue that will affect the route plan.
    • Ensure all cargo is secured throughout the delivery route.
    • Complete and verify all required paperwork and temperature requirements.
    • Accurately report hours of service in accordance with DOT and FMCSA regulations 49 C.F.R. 395.8 and 49 C.F.R. 395.11 using an electronic logging device (ELD). Review log and then certify log at the end of each day.
    • Report to work at designated times for assigned route/routes in a well-rested condition ready to work and drive.
    • Document and report any defects or concerns with truck/tractor and/or trailer within the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
