    Overview:

    The Social Worker II reports to the Director of Radiation Therapy. Assists patients and their caregivers to resolve personal and environmental problems which prohibit or limit patient from obtaining maximum benefits from medical care. Evaluates and monitors patient distress and the psycho-social functioning of patients and their caregivers, counseling and referring them to other resources as necessary. Consults with other hospital professionals as well as representatives of outside agencies as indicated. Coordinates the discharge planning process. Assists appropriate patients in enrolling in pharmaceutical drug assistance programs. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

    Qualifications:
    • Education: Advanced degree (graduate and above)
    • Licensure: LCSW Licensed Clinical Social Worker in MO.
    • Experience: 1-2 yrs experience required to acquire diagnostic interviewing skills, counseling skills and techniques, become familiar with local agencies and facilities, learn to develop adequate discharge plans, and acquire suitable interpersonal and analytical skills .
    • Other: Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills are required. Analytical ability necessary to assess patient needs and potential referrals, develop associated discharge plans, and to most effectively utilize community and governmental resources. Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to counsel patients and their families concerning emotional and social issues/problems. Ability to effectively interact with medical and nursing staff, other members of the health care team and various external agencies. Requires the skill to provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
    • Preferred Experience: 3-5 yrs in an oncology setting.
    • Preferred Certifications: AOSW (Association of Oncology Social Workers) certification
    • Preferred Other: Knowledge of distress screening, financial counseling, survivorship, support groups and assistance with patient navigation.
