The Mammography Technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic mammographic procedures in hospital, clinic or mobile van sites, according to established protocols to assist the referring physician in diagnosis and treatment. The Mammography Technologist operates digital mammography equipment and performs procedures by positioning patients, preparing contrast medias, and selecting the correct exposure factors utilizing the assessment of patient age, pathology and diagnosis to produce technically accurate digital and or analog images to assist the radiologist in diagnosis.
Responsibilities
- Performs Radiography and Mammography examinations on identified patients according to department and procedures and protocols by positioning patients, preparing contrast medias, selecting anatomic and technical parameters accurately, and selecting the correct exposure factors utilizing the assessment of patient age, pathology and diagnosis to produce reliable and informational data.
- Ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all mammographic examinations according to MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and FDA quality control requirements.
- Accurately inputs data into the RIS by tracking procedure performed as well as data required in order to capture exam and supply charges, resource allocation and other relevant information. Transfers correctly annotated images into PACS.
- Develops and evaluates images for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
- Obtains all relevant patient information, and assesses physician's order and/or requisition for completeness by reviewing the clinical information, pertinent laboratory results and patient's chart to ensure the correct procedure is performed and proper patient preparation is administered on the correct patient.
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Radiographyprogram.
- CT State Radiographer's License required.
- ARRT (R) & ARRT (M)
- Current xray and mammography experience are required.
- Acute care experience and experience with invasive procedures is very highly preferred.
