    We are currently seeking an experienced NICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on night shift!

    Position Overview

    Our labor and delivery staff have specialized experience in childbirth support and newborn care. The Women's Services unit is composed of 6 labor rooms, 2 ante partum rooms, 18 postpartum rooms, 3 triage beds and 8 NICU bassinets. We also have a certified lactation consultant on-staff to assist when needed.

    Responsibilities

    • Based on nursing assessment, collaborates to create, modify and re-prioritize patient plan of care as necessary
    • Recognizes and reports changes in the patient's clinical condition. Identifies actual and potential health problems and their implications based on observed data/signs
    • Recognizes implications of abnormal diagnostic tests and follows through (lab, NST, OCT, US, x-rays/scans, vital signs)
    • Proficient at Gestational/Age Maturity Rating Scale, Neonatal Abstinence Scoring, breast/bottle feeding, Glucose Protocol, bathing and daily care, oxygen setup, discharge teaching/planning, circumcision care/teaching and PKU
    • Promptly identifies and interprets subtle and early indicators of crisis situation and intervenes (e.g. recognizes patient changes when precipitous delivery is imminent and prepares for deliver)
    • Proficient with equipment specific to nursery, radiant warmers, incubators, Bili lights, bili blankets, Spacelabs and Dinemapp vital signs machines, scales and pulse oximeters
    • Demonstrates competency to manage all areas of emergency nursing involving different body systems within age specific criteria
    • Responds to additional unit needs during crisis and coordinates neonatal transport
    • Documents findings and communicates all pertinent information to interdisciplinary team members as appropriate
    • Provides education to patients/families/significant others, incorporating age-specific criteria and assessment of readiness to learn
    • Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards
    • Delegates appropriately to non-licensed staff in accordance with job descriptions, license requirements, and standards of practice
    • Participates in developing other staff and affiliating students
    • Demonstrates willingness to Cross-train and/or assist other areas of the hospital accepting assignments within competency level, as needed
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited RN program. Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
    • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Texas, or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 days of hire
    • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
