Senior Systems Engineer

- Designs and implements a toolset that simplifies provisioning and support of a large enterprise Red Hat Linux environment.
- Strong focus on design, build, deployment, security, system hardening and securing servers and services inside of the Corporate network, within a segmented DMZ network, or publicly exposed on the Internet (cloud / colo).
- Integrate Linux systems into Windows Active Directory and design mapping or gap matrix of Group Policy on Linux platforms to enhance standardization.
- Plans and executes major platform software and operating system upgrades and maintenance across a highly virtualized environment.
- Plans, configures and implements features on the Red Hat Linux platforms that improve availability, response time, and monitoring of key system metrics.
- Manage a Red Hat Satellite Infrastructure.This will include, but not limited to infrastructure implementation, OS installation, system upgrading, errata remediation, and post-processing tasks.
- Install new / rebuild existing physical and virtual servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted end user communities.
- Monitor the current computing environment, data stores, networks, and key processes related to Linux platforms.
- Apply OS/application patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services, as necessary. Perform application and firmware updates as required.
- Perform ongoing performance, system and application tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Works closely with Application and Database teams to standardize and create deployments and continuous integration pipelines focused on automation.
- Serves as a mentor and provides guidance and training to other team members.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date installation, configuration, and security procedures and technical documentation.
- Follow policies and procedures for change and incident management.
- Excellent application integration troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose system problems.
- Strong customer focus and management of client expectations; ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in ITs knowledge of and concern for users business needs. Shows signs of guiding and offering problem solving for group and peers.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audiences (management, users, vendors, technical staff) in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding. Ability to write clear proposals and technical documents
- Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and ability to motivate employees/teams to apply skills and techniques to solve dynamic problems; excellent teamwork skills
- Effectively managing small to large projects in a cross-functional environment
- Work with long-established senior and lead staff and follow up on tasks.
- Communicate technical information in a concise and articulate manner
- Support the definition and development of documentation, procedures, and standards for the Linux enterprise environment.
- Support the evaluation and recommendation of tools and new technologies for the Linux enterprise environment.
- Assist in performing impact analyses, research products, configure software, and establish standards and procedures that support the companys Linux environment needs.
- Assist in the root cause analysis for problems and drive strong preventive actions
- Participates in the on-call production support rotation and may occasionally be required to work hours outside of the traditional work schedule.

Position Overview
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for providing senior subject matter expertise within Linux environment. The Senior Systems Engineers primary responsibility is to provide Engineering and Support for all items related to the Linux platform. Other desirable skills surround OpenShift, Kubernetes, virtualization, and scripting. General duties include platform support, server builds, troubleshooting, patching, and remediating vulnerable systems, and compliance tracking/remediation. Partners with management and other engineers to provide technical support using their background to take on Senior level work assignments the team is engaged in. Works with Advanced and Lead Engineers to support the security and compliance of the environment. Strong people skills and the ability to balance a large workload are essential.
What Youll Do

Qualifications
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL): 5-8 years of experience and Red Hat Satellite (implementation & administration): 3-5 years of experience
Shell Scripting: 3-5 years experience
YUM / RPM Repository Management: 3-5 years experience
Windows Active Directory Integration: 3-5 years experience
Must understand PCI compliance & Audit and have Corporate Linux Administration experience
Desirable certifications for this position:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
LPIC-1: Linux Administrator
