    Energy Management Engineer

    Job Description

    The Energy Management Engineer will be responsible to provide energy management services for our higher education clients in the Washington DC area. This individual shall be responsible for the identification and execution of energy optimization strategies primarily related to HVAC systems operation to generate energy savings and improve comfort at the client location. The Energy Management Engineer will work alongside the Client HVAC Operations Team. Duties will include, but not be limited to:

    • Identify and implement energy conservation opportunities and help facilitate the implementation of projects and initiatives to reduce energy consumption and demand. The focus is primarily on low and no cost optimization strategies that reduce energy consumption.
    • Implement / manage building HVAC schedules and optimizing night setback routines.
    • Review and optimize setpoints and control routines. This includes temperatures, static and differential pressures, and CO2/ventilation rates. The goal is to provide optimum comfort while also minimizing energy use.
    • Troubleshooting / resolving deficiencies related to energy waste. Energy waste often results from overrides and other settings put into place to overcome comfort problems. The Energy Management will be responsible to develop solutions to and work with the HVAC Operations team to resolve these issues to generate additional energy savings.
    • Daily Interaction with Facilities/ HVAC Operations Staff. The Energy Management Engineer shall work directly with the Facilities HVAC Operations staff, reviewing current operations, recommending optimization measures, and implementing agreed to measures.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Project managing corrective work or third-party contractor work required to implement energy savings measures recommended.
      • This may include reviewing required work with the Facility Operation team to mutually determine what work can be done in-house and what requires third-party contractor support.
      • For work that requires third-party contractor support, the Energy Management Engineer shall develop scopes of work, solicit pricing from third-party contractors, reviewing proposals with the HVAC Operations team and recommending acceptance when appropriate.
      • Providing project management of the third-party contractor through the work, approving the work and the invoices for payment once work is complete.
      • Commissioning the work to verify the performance improvement desired is realized.
    • Assist with identifying and evaluating energy efficiency measures, calculate the savings potential of measures, and prepare assessment reports.
    • Develop cost and payback analyses for identified initiatives.
    • Participate in meetings and demonstrate appropriate level of technical capabilities.
    • Troubleshoot system operational issues that impact system operation and energy efficiency.
    • Utilize effective management skills and communication to deliver results.
    • Technical Operations and Maintenance assistance.

    Qualifications

    • Must be personable and enjoy working with people every day. Must enjoy collaborating with others and capable of working and communicating with people at all levels of a facilities organization.
    • Must enjoy problem solving, troubleshooting, and developing consensus around solutions.
    • Bachelor?s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field, with minimum of 5 years of experience in energy management, energy engineering or HVAC design.
    • Must possess an excellent working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and have the capability to perform investigations of Energy Management Control Systems / Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and to recommend and implement advanced control strategies.
    • CEM certification is a plus.
    • Must have excellent verbal and writing skills (a recent writing sample is required).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software: Excel, Word, Power Point.
    • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC and located within reasonable commuting distance; driver?s license and access to a vehicle are essential requirement for this position.
