    UNIT SUMMARY

    Ten operating rooms with a separate Cystoscopy Room. Rotating shifts of 8 and 12 hours with some call on weekends and during the week. State of the art hybrid room just opened with the rest of OR currently under renovation. We support many service lines: General, GYN, Urology, Neuro, and specialize in Orthopedics.

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Certified Surgical Assistant is an individual, other than a physician, who assists the surgeon in the performance of approved surgical procedures, and who works under the direct supervision of and by the request of the operating surgeon. The assistant oes not concurrently serve as the scrub personnel for the surgical procedure.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Function as a first assistant or as an additional assistant to the surgeon. NOTE: Assistance is limited to the scope of the supervising physicians privileges and may include visualization of the operative site, hemostasis, and suturing.

    • Assists in moving, positioning, and prepping the patient for surgery.
    • Under the direction of the OR Nurse Manager, will function as a Surgical Tech on a wide variety of surgical cases.
    • Delivery excellent customer service by exhibiting the customer service behaviors in the performance of every aspect of the job.

    STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     Education / Training:

    • High school diploma required. Completion of an accredited Surgical Tech Assistant Program. Shall achieve Certified Surgical Assistant Certification (CSA) through the NSAA, or Certified Surgical First Assistant Certification (CSFA) through the NBSTSA within two years of completing first assistant course.

    Work Experience:

    • Two years surgical assisting experience preferred.

    Certification, Licensure, Registration:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required Or
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross required

    Other Qualifications:

    • Specialized knowledge of surgical conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms and alternative forms of treatment in various age populations
