    TRAVEL RN / Registered Nurse / Med Surg RN / Medical Surgical Nurse

    Estimated payment breakdown
    ~$2098.00-$2242.00/wk*
    ~$936.00-$1080.00 in weekly taxable income
    ~$26.00/hr-$30.00/hr*
    Estimate assumes an 12 hour shift. Hourly rate may change based on shift length.

    13 weeks - 12 hour Days; 3- 12 hour shifts, DAYSHIFT, 7A-7:30, every other weekend, holidays as needed. - 36GH - BLS - Submission Requirements:
    Can only submit to 1 position at a time across the entire WVU system
    Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
    Previous perm candidates must be gone for 2 years
    Previous travelers there for 1 full year must be gone for 2 years

    Travel teams must be submitted together in 1 email
    We are only permitted to submit 2 candidates per opening, if the position is at max, we will hold on to the submission if a spot opens up

    Unit Med/Surg 5th floor
    # Beds 25 med surg beds/10 observation beds, Units called Medical Surgical and OBSU 5S
    Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:5, can go up to 1:6 due to staffing
    Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS required
    Common diagnoses/Types of patients Med/Surg: PNA, COPD, wounds, IV abx, surgical patients, appendectomy, urological, bowel resections, remote tele, etc. OBS: stress tests, chest pain, post cardiac cath, fluids, blood administration, gastroenteritis, pyelonephritis, etc. expected LOS is 18-24 hours.
    Experience or 'Must have' skills critical thinking, prioritization, medication administration, foley catheters, NG tubes, peripheral IV placement, PICC & central line maintenance, utilizing and following the nursing kardex for physician orders.
    Are RNs required to titrate drips? No
    Common titratable &/or set rate drips We take only SET RATE drips and only certain ones. We take Heparin drips, Lasix Drips, Protonix Drips. We take TPN and PPN. DO NOT take cardiac drips of any sort at this time.
    Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? Tele monitor techs are remote (located on the 2nd floor). They call the nurse or tech if there is a problem with the patients' tele. Nurses do not have to read their own strips. Tele monitors are Phillips. There is a tele monitor screen located on 5F (med/surg) and 5S OBSU (observation) for viewing only.
    Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse is generally out of staffing. Will take assignment during severe staffing issues. The house supervisor mostly speaks with the charge nurse to place patients on the various units.
    Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios patient care techs. They are not advanced in skill. Can give baths, take vital signs, do fingersticks, transport patients, assist the nurse with dressing changes, etc. They have anywhere between 8-12 patients.
    RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) We take CPap, Bipap, High flow, Heated high flow, venti masks. Respiratory therapy controls all of this for the most part. Respiratory administers breathing treatments and inhalers.
    Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) We do allow self-scheduling through our Kronos application. We are open to block scheduling.
    Weekend Requirement Every other weekend.
    Holiday Requirement Holidays as needed.
    Is there Call or a Standby requirement? No
    Floating Requirements? As needed. First to float.
    Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Navy blue, Scrubs not provided
    Unit/Department specific orientation Day 1: CBLS, omnicell, glucometer training, tour
    Day 2: Orientation with a preceptor for 12-hour shift
    Day 3: On own
    Nursing Services Orientation (4 hours) - sometimes not the same week the employee starts, Nick/Holly will get you scheduled. This is in person.
    Epic Refresher Course (4 hours)/If no Epic experience full Epic Course (8 hours) - Day/time varies. Nick/Holly will get you scheduled. Virtual.
    Additional Notes Staff float between 5F and OBSU 5S. Charge nurse is responsible for making the assignment every shift and is responsible for the entire 5th floor (both 5F and OBSU 5S)
