    Job Summary and Qualifications

    A Respiratory Therapy Assistant is defined as a person who is a full-time student in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, preferably within the second year. Under supervision of Respiratory Therapists, the assistant performs basic tasks, which have been learned in class and practiced in the school laboratory setting. These tasks have also been practiced with demonstrated competency during clinical rotations at area hospitals. The assistant follows departmental policies and procedures and performs tasks only after successful passing of theoretical tests and practical competencies, administered by Respiratory Therapy Department leadership. As the assistant progresses in knowledge and experience, their job scope widens, as they demonstrate more skills and proficiencies.

    • You will perform patient assessment, deliver basic Oxygen and aerosolized medication therapy.
    • You will perform CPR, Arterial Blood Gas Analysis, sputum induction and other basic diagnostic tests, as assigned.
    • You will clean and perform pre-use testing for various respiratory care equipment, machines etc.
    • You will perform Electrocardiogram and alert appropriate providers when necessary.
    • You will assist in home oxygen discharge and setting up durable medical equipment (DME).
    • You will adequately documents delivered patient care and all other assigned tasks.
    • You will functions as a team member in care of patients.
    • You will communicate with co-workers, and other professionals, including physicians, nurses etc. to assist with quality patient care.
    • You will maintain high standards of clinical excellence, according to Departmental policies.
    • You will maintain clinical productivity standards.
    • You will maintain technical clinical expertise through inquisitive curiosity.
    • You will maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA policies.

    Position Requirements:

    • Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy education program.
    • 6 months of previous experience is preferred.
    • Knowledge of respiratory principles and procedures, hospital supplies, and hospital routines is preferred.
    • Basic Life Support Certification
