Purpose & Impact:
The Family Support Coach is responsible for all aspects of teaching the Parenting classes, which provides parenting skills to voluntary and court-mandated clients throughout Miami-Dade County. This position assumes the broad role of teacher, supporter, advocate, child development specialist and liaison to the larger community The Family Support Coach is trained to have extensive knowledge and skills, including an understanding of child abuse and neglect, the ability to conduct a developmental screening, parenting and home management skills, and the ability to access community resources. They work with each family and facilitate weekly parenting groups which helps families develop strength-based action plans to address areas identified as challenges, provide information to improve parenting skills, teach child development maintain collaborative relationship with primary care providers and the school and community.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate Parenting education classes using strength-based curriculum.
- Responsible for classroom preparation which includes setup, cleanup, and teaching of classes.
- Comply with class schedule (day and evening classes).
- Conduct presentations and classes throughout Miami Dade County.
- Provides direct care and supervision of youth.
- Conduct program intakes for clients.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, modeling, and support to students.
- Schedule, conduct and provide written reports on pre and post observations of parent /child interaction.
- Administer AAPI (Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory) and PSI (Parenting Stress Inventory)
- Make verbal and written reports to court and referral source as required.
- Attend training/ workshops on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in quarterly staff meetings.
- May assume Team Leader role as required based on program needs.
- Comply with all guidelines established in grant.
- Contributes to the understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity within the agency and the community.
- Utilizes the agencys resources in a fiscally conservative manner.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed as by Supervisor.

Education:
- A bachelors degree in human services or related field
Experience:
- 1-3 years experience in family and childrens services. Experience with structured groups and parent education groups is preferred; fluent in both English and Spanish (both verbal and written) preferred.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral), especially to a large group.
- Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft and Excel).
- Must have good listening, communication and writing skills.
- Must be willing to learn.
- Must be willing and able to work well with others and cooperate in the sharing of resources and information to obtain the final work product.
Other:
- Reliable transportation and valid drivers license and driving record that is acceptable to this agency.
- Facilitator must be able to perform extra duties/responsibilities requested by direct supervisor.
- Facilitator must be willing to work both Homestead and Miami locations.
- Works in shared group space with moderate noise level.
- Often works independently, linked to Internet resources.
- Works with frequent interruptions.
- Will be available to work a flexible schedule, evening and weekends as scheduled to meet organizational needs.
- Required: one evening shift per week occurring Monday - Friday and one weekend day per month.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.
