The team on 5900 provides chemotherapy, pain management, support of radiation interventions, infusion of blood products, administration of blood products and hydration. Infusion of fresh and frozen hematopoietic cell transplant products (peripheral blood stem cells/bone marrow). Telemetry, hemodynamic, ventilator, and dialysis support. Supportive care for hematopoietic cell transplant and leukemia patients. Patients are moderate to high acuity with a high complexity of interventions and patient care needs including clinical, spiritual, psycho-social, and family care.


    Preferred Qualifications

    Role Purpose

    Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care to hematology/oncology/gynecology/BMT/Cellular Therapy patients who require a high level of clinical expertise.

    Responsibilities

  • Understands the unique learning needs of patients and families who are experiencing a life crisis. Educates patients and their families on disease process, management of illness/injury/treatment, support resources, infection prevention techniques, and essential daily tasks to prepare for discharge.
  • Provides care to acutely and critically ill patients in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment. These patients are facing life-threatening problems with varying needs, which require extensive medication protocols and therapies. Educates patients and their families on disease process, management of illness/injury/treatment, support resources, infection prevention techniques, and essential daily tasks to prepare for next transition of care.
  • Develops, implements, and revises individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Evaluates patient's response to complex critical treatment modalities and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patient's stay. Demonstrates expertise and critical thinking skills to assess and evaluate patient's/family's physical, psychosocial and emotional needs Demonstrates ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships in patient/family-centered environment.
  • Provide complex nursing care (assessments, monitoring, interventions, and education) for pediatric hematology/oncology patients and stem cell/BMT patients, including; - administer chemotherapy, biotherapy and supportive care within guidelines of specific protocols, including CART-T cells, NK cell, MIBG, etc. - verify and validate chemotherapy protocols, orders, and chemotherapy dosing - transfuse blood products - administer antimicrobial therapy - provide electrolyte and fluid balance - provide psychosocial support - obtain research specimens and pharmacokinetic samples
