    The Role Responsibilities

    The primary purpose of the role is to ensure that US tax is well supported, controlled and remains within risk appetite by providing technical tax expertise and managing a broad range of ongoing tax projects.

    Strategy & Business
    Provide strategic support to Country Tax Manager in matters relating to the tax provisions and tax returns. Oversee SCB branch and subsidiaries tax provisions and tax forecasts including coordination with Tax Compliance Manager.
    Review all tax returns and identify and clear all issues prior to US Country Tax manager's sign off.


    Ascertain that global transfer pricing policies and methodologies are consistent with US rules and that they are appropriately implemented within the business and properly documented. Identify differences, and work with Business and Country Finance to clear specific country issues.
    Handle and direct tax examinations with tax authority representatives in collaboration with the Country Tax Manager and Compliance team on the same.
    Provide coordination support between tax advisory (on business issues and organizational changes) and the tax compliance team.
    Provide tax advice on inquiries from other offices including group tax, Europe and Americas tax team, transfer pricing team and other country tax managers.
    Manage day to day activities of tax projects (e.g., various BEAT analysis projects, tax planning), maintain a log on all projects and their progress, and outstanding action steps.
    Keep current on US tax changes affecting the Bank and its subsidiaries.

    Processes
    Oversee the forecasting, reporting and tax compliance processes for US.
    Project manage transfer pricing and other ongoing tax related projects.

    People and Talent
    Communicate vision of the role of the global tax function and role-model collaboration across the US tax function.
    Ensure up to date contingency plans are in place.
    Conduct training of staff where appropriate.

    Risk Management

    Discharge Tax Risk Control Owner responsibilities for US in accordance with the Tax Procedure by ensuring or implementing the necessary controls for US Tax.
    Assist the US Country Manager in setting strategy for resolving tax controversy for US and driving any material settlement or litigation matters should such arise.
    Ensure relationships with US federal, state and local tax authorities are managed in a transparent, professional and constructive manner.

    Assist in leading the leading the US Tax Function to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles .
    Effectively and collaboratively identify, timely escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

    Our Ideal Candidate
    Licensed as a CPA or as an attorney.
    A minimum of ten years of experience in dealing with international taxation of non-US financial institutions and tax issues facing US corporates and consolidated groups. The experience can be either with an accounting or law firm or in-house.
    Experience in managing and working with a diverse group of tax professionals globally.
    Ability to perform research using internet products such as Lexis, CCH, BNA.
    Ability to communicate complex tax issues to key stakeholders in a manner that is clear and understandable, both orally and in writing.
    Skilled at working with revenue authorities during the audit process.
    Capable of developing tax planning opportunities in the Americas and liaising with the UK tax team about the impact of the planning on the Group's ETR.
    Capable of serving as the 'go to' person for all US tax issues raised by members of the Global Tax team.
    Ability to work with outside advisers, manage relationships and use of resources judiciously and effectively.
