Job Summary
The Corrosion Technician will be responsible to prevent and mitigate corrosion of UGI underground metallic pipelines as is practical and for meeting applicable regulatory requirements. This is accomplished by the installation, inspection and maintenance of cathodic protection systems including necessary records and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Survey and maintain existing cathodic protection systems.
- Inform and instruct C&M, engineering and contractors on how to cathodically protect new services and mains or added extensions.
- Assist and direct C&M or contractors in the installation of corrosion control systems.
- Assist in pipeline integrity assessment activities.
- Design cathodic protection systems for services and smaller coated main segments.
- Inspect non-cathodically protected services or mains for potential future protection.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and application of pipeline cathodic protection concepts.
- UGI field operational practices and procedures related to cathodic protection and integrity management of underground metallic pipelines.
- Proficient with computers and related data query and entry applications including GIS, DOJM, CP Survey Application, BI Dashboard, Gas Service Web App, etc.
- Applicable federal and state regulations.
- Communicate effectively with other UGI departments, outside contractors, township officials and the public. Possess ability to work independently and identify and resolve cathodic protection problems working alone.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma, basic electrical circuits, and theory.
- Acquiring of NACE Certification is required within 5 years at a minimum level of Corrosion Technician or NACE CP1 Tester with the expectation that NACE CP2 or CP Technician certification will be attained in subsequent 2 years.
