Chemours is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanics to join our growing Product Growth team! This position will report directly to the Product Growth Manager at our Newark, DE location with occasional travel to nearby worksites.
In Thermal & Specialty Solutions, we harness next-generation, low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) technology to provide market driven innovations to customers in the areas of Refrigerants, Propellants, Fire Protection, Foam Blowing Agents used in various systems for building and construction segments, and Mobile and Stationary heating and cooling systems to name a few. Our technical organization consists of experts in the areas of fluorine, catalysis, process development, analytical and formulation science, and application development to name a few. This role will support R&D projects within the Thermal & Specialty Solutions business with specific focus on new refrigerants testing in our test center.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Install, and/or modify refrigeration test systems including commercial freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps, compressor calorimeter with minimal direction,
Install, and/or modify instrumentation to evaluate performance of the test systems including hot work (brazing, welding, soldering), compression fitting connections, auxiliary equipment (e.g. refrigerant concentration monitoring, duct work, etc.)
Operate refrigeration test systems 24/7 to maximize efficiency of the test center
Work with test center team, analytical team, and other groups for analyzing additional data regarding test systems (ex. additive concentration, refrigerant, and lubricant breakdown, etc.)
Support in writing technical reports and laboratory safety documentation including interlock testing, operating procedures, hazards analysis, among others
Provide and review technical data for technical reports, conference papers, and other technical data presentations
Maintain test centers waste notebooks and chemical inventory via the dedicated Database.
Engage in Process Safety Management (PSM) meetings for hazards identification, equipment startup, changes to existing procedures, and any other changes to the test center
Follow all safety guidelines and use safe procedures during all workstreams.
The following is required for this role:
Associate degree OR Technical Certificate in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical program
4+ years of experience in the Refrigeration industry with demonstrated knowledge in the field. Knowledge of refrigeration system operating principles, familiarity with common commercial HVAC&R systems and instrumentation, and maintenance experience with such systems
Demonstrated mechanical & electrical hands-on experience to execute equipment modifications in support of projects. This includes hot work experience (brazing, welding, soldering), equipment power and signal wiring, and system refrigerant line connecting and modifying.
The following is preferred for this role:
Universal EPA 608 Certification or obtain within a month of hiring
System diagnosis skills to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues (ex. compressor motor issues, high operating pressures, refrigerant leak indicators, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Excel for test system data processing, PowerPoint for data presentation, Outlook and teams for presenting data, scheduling, etc.
Ability to work independently and effective time management
