Primary Functions:

The Maintenance Mechanic will support the Norwood, MA CertainTeed production line, manufacturer of asphalt roofing shingles. The mechanic will select and properly use all hand tools and stationary power tools including power saw, welders, etc., as well as diagnose and repair most plant equipment (pumps, gear boxes, rollers, bearings, motors, conveyors, etc.). Last year, our master mechanics averaged over $100,000 as a 7-day operation. Pay Rate: $31.46- 33.50/ Hourly

Schedule

Monday-Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on production needs

2nd Shift (2:30PM-11PM) and 3rd shift (11:00pm-7:00am) - currently working 7:00pm-7:00am for training

Lots of overtime available!

Essential Job Functions:

Metal fabrication/welding

Change out worn motors, gear reducers, bearings, etc.

Lubricate and maintain conveyors

Troubleshooting production manufacturing equipment

Other plant maintenance responsibilities as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

1+ year of maintenance mechanic experience

Prior metal fabrication experience

Prior lathe and milling machine operation is a plus

Prior experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is a plus

Safety & Health:

Follow the CertainTeed Health and Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within the facility and provide key leadership to support the EHS initiatives. Proper use of PPE at all times. Maintain clean and safe working environment in line with the 5S philosophy. Facilitate and/or participate in safety training and safety committee meetings.

Flexibility:

Ability to work a minimum of 45 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, vision acuity to see details within a few feet of an observer, accepting of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with potential stressful situations, sensitivity to others needs, and have a positive demeanor.

Initiative:

Actively participates in continuous improvement processes to better serve customers and improve the overall profitability of CertainTeed. Actively promote Saint-Gobains EHS and VMVO objectives. Make suggestions for improving product quality, processes, safety and company profitability.

Work Environment:

Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas >80db are present inside plant areas. This position may include outdoor tasks in a wide range of climate conditions (Heat/cold/rainetc.). The Manufacturing processes involve granules, silica sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility.

Monday - Friday, Saturday or Sunday depending on production needs Moving from a 2 shift to a 3 shift operation, 1st Shift (7AM 3PM), 2nd Shift (3PM 11PM), 3rd Shift (11PM 7AM)
