Clinic RN - Maternal Fetal Medicine
The Ambulatory Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.- Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
- Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
- Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
- Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
- Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
- Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in the development of departmental standing orders.
- Be proficient in and perform fetal non-stress tests
- Assist provider with procedures; amniocentesis, IUD insertion/removal, cerclage removal
- Perform wound assessment/care; e.g., staple removal, dressing change, debridement, etc.
- Administer facility ordered medications; oral, intramuscular, subcutaneously
- Perform telephone triage of obstetrical, post-partum, pre-pregnancy patients. Call patients with laboratory results, obtain blood glucose readings, prior authorizations, refill prescriptions as per provider order
- Educate patients on prenatal screening tests/results specific to Maternal Fetal Medicine, self-injection (IM/SQ), signs and symptoms of pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, diabetes in pregnancy (insulin self-injection, blood glucose monitoring, diet, etc)
- Review patient charts from regional OB providers to ensure all appropriate information is obtained prior to MFM visit
